One of the things I see here alot is what I call the "First Church of the Second Amendment Incarnate, Preacher Jefferson T. Washingmouth, DD, Presiding", ie someone will post a typical piece of anti gun idiot fluff like ya read in newspapers every day, then the masses of posters will rise to their feet like on a hot Sunday in the church and shout and scream, "praise the Second Amendment, down with the jackbooted thugs", "Thank you forefathers, bring back our freedom", "yeah, praise be!" and so on....

Me I try to pick my spots :)

I am definitely addicted to THR, just like I was to TFL and the Compuserve forums before that.
I spend an hour or three here each day, but seldom post because I don't have that much to contribute.

Maybe it's a case of keeping my mouth shut and thereby appearing a fool, rather than opening it and removing all doubt.
Or maybe it's too late for that as I am over a hundred posts. :scrutiny:

I just go in spurts i swear. most days i dont feel like typeing anything. others i wont shut up.

i dont feel i can honstly add all that much to most conversations....so i keep my butt out of them.

do surf quite often. less now that the boss blocked the site :fire:

grandpa always said if you don't have something important to say, keep your mouth shut. no sense talkin just to hear your head rattle. saddlebum

Heavens, reading this and glancing at my post count (one which really amazes me after thinking about it) I did a quick search and found out that I made it in the top 5 pages of chronic posters. I guess I should get busy over the next month to make sure that I make it into 4 figures worth of posts by the one year anniversary.

Generally I'll only post if someone hasn't already mentioned what it is I'm going to say. Then again, someone already mentioned that here, so you can ignore me now. :)

I also tend to find that many people spend more time speaking than listening, so I prefer to take in whatever it is that others say, then formulate a response if it is needed. No sense in telling someone something that they already knew. I have quite a few friends that will interrupt me when I'm speaking and ask me a question that would have been answered if they didn't interrupt. This is a little different on message boards, but I think you all get the point.

I only post on the weekends when I get let out of jail.

That's not really true, but it would make useless threads like this more interesting to read. Guess thats why I don't post much.

I post when I feel that I can contibute to the conversation. I'm also a member of about 6 other boards so I surf thru for intersting topics and discussions and stay away from bashing and arguing that takes place on other forums.

i like to keep my mouth shut and be thought a fool.
rather than open it and prove the contention.

i have a wife ,teenage daughter, two cats and now a puppy.
i do what i am told to.

Since I fit as neatly into the category of non-poster as anyone you will find, I can at least offer my reasons.

When I signed up here, I thought I was at a place in my life where I was going to have more time to participate. That was just wishful thinking.

Since I first registered and made a few posts, I have been through the end of a long term relationship, moved 1400 miles across the country, and still managed to work 70-80 hours per week.

When I do have some spare time, I am more likely to go fishing, go for a long walk, or turn to my first love: READING.

I just checked back in here less than a week ago after several months of not logging on at all-in between jobs for once.

So I would say that it is not that I have been offended, or put off by anyone, just a lack of time that I had available.

On a brighter note, I may be back to working in the industry again-gainfully employed as a gunsmith, but it is not yet certain.

I'll speak when I feel I have something to say. Otherwise it's hard to listen if you're running off at the mouth...

...or keyboard.

Encouraging set of replies from this ... ''useless'' thread (sorry - Open Carry ..... dig I could not resist!) ..... mostly confirming supposition.

What it has done tho in part ..... is to have drawn a few less-often seen members ''out the woodwork'' .... good to see you guys there .... :)

I post when there is a topic that interests me. This board isnt one of my primary boards I visit..it has no LEO-specific posting area, for one thing. I often find boards through links on threads, register and then only occasionally revisit that board.

It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and proof the point

I was the 906th member to sign up, but you woudn't know it by my post count. If my way of thought has already been said multiple times, I figure one more post saying "yup", won't add much to the discussion.

umm.... mostly what WR Olsen said.

I'm usually here 5 or 6 time a week.

I'll add something if I've got something new and constructive to say but usually someone has already said so why waste bandwidth with echo?

If I have a question, I'll do a search first and 49 time out of fifty, I'll find the answer there.

There's talkers and there's listeners (or posters and readers if you will) I guess I'm just more of a listener/reader

On some other forums I participate in, it isn't uncommon for people to simply post a 'Yup' or even just a smiley to bump their post-count. This board generally has people wise enough to understand that neither a numerical accounting of your participation nor tenure on the board give any indication of knowledge or attitude.

Don't speak much, but say a lot.

I'm with the Hound...

I'm more interested in reading/absorbing than trying to get my post count up. I feel that what is posted carries a lot farther than how many times you post.

Quality, not Quantity(sp?)
