Tomorrow I will be getting either a Marlin 30-30 lever (pronounced lee-ver according to all my lever action buddies). Either the 336 walnut\blue or the 336 stainless. Does anyone have a stainless version? I would like your feedback on how happy you have been with it. I have a Marlin 39A in walnut/blue that I love, but the stainless looks awlful sharp. Some parts are nickel plated but I'm not sure which ones. Probably the sights, lever, trigger? Anyway, would love to get your opinion. I promise to post pictures of whichever one I get.

BTW, I searched for a used one for a long time, but people are very proud of their 336s. Any rifle I found in good shape was not much cheaper than a new one. Guess they don't really want to sell it and were being forced to by the wife!

I am kinda a Guide Gun type guy with a couple stainless steel ones I have tricked out. Marlins are darn good rifles. You can't go wrong.

pics of new rifle

Here is my new 336c 30-30. This is a great shooter. My buddie and I shot twelve rounds before dark. He is a better shot with iron sights than I am. I'm too spoiled on scopes and need to get back to the basics. He was able to do two 3-shot dime groups from about 35 yards, with two rounds through the same hole on each group. Rear sight is off about two inches to the right, but I am real pleased. Wood is beautiful. Paid $419.99 after $30 off with Cabela's bucks. Can't wait to go to the range. Sorry if I am a little overboard on the pics, but I wanted to show off the newest addition to my family. She will be right next to her other cute new little sister, a Marlin Goldie 39A.

Good choice.
I've had my Marlin 30-30 "Lee-ver" since 1970. It still tight and still shoots great.
It's a good looking rifle. You won't be sorry.

I purchased a 336SS earlier this month. In a word, I love it. Walnut and bluing look nice, but the SS caught my eye. Shoots well, feels good and looks great. What more can you ask? I admit, I did the whole 'scout scope' thing. Just mounted everything up so I haven't had a chance to take it to the range, but I think it'll only enhance my effectiveness with the rifle. One thing to note is that with scope, rings and base the rifle becomes noticeable more heavy.

was tempted to go SS, but my budget would not let me, but I am not disappointed in the least.

I hear ya :\

how many people have tried this ammo?

It is all I have used thus far. New rifle, so about 2 boxes. I'm happy with the results. My usual go-to round is the Remy Core-Lokt (my preference in .30-06), but I like the idea of having the 'enhanced' 200 yard reach with the LEVERevolution ammunition. The delta is about 6 bucks right now where I find the ammunition locally. If I end up shooting it a lot I may buy some 150 gr Core-Lokts to practice with.

I see Hornady now has 150 gr LEVERevolution ammunition for the 30-30. Has anyone tried it, and can anyone compare the 160 gr vs 150 gr on deer sized game? Link for reference: http://www.hornady.com/store/30-30-Win/. Thanks.

I have the 336ss and love it. I'm sure you will enjoythat new 336.
I warn you not to shoot anyones 1895g 45-70 or you will be buying one of those also.
The 45-70 is great for deer.

Dangit, I'm jealous. That's exactly what I want for christmas. Congrats.
