As an occasional business traveller to the UK, I have read about several such cases, plus have witnessed some incredible (to an American!) viciousness and corruption in the police and in the "justice" system as a whole. Our bad cops really are "choirboys" compared to those "kind and gentle bobbies" (on bicycles, yet, two by two). They really like to beat up on the citizens (ooops, "subjects").
The stories usually get about a day's play before the tightly controlled press is told to go cover a royal scandal and don't worry about the cops machine-gunning those innocent people.
