I just wanted to let everyone know about the Jack and Ron morning show on 98.9. Monday morning they were making some pretty bad comments about the end of the AWB, so I emailed them last night. They actually read my email (which was very civil and not at all insulting) this morning and then started implying insults toward me personally. They couldn't argue with my facts, so they just attacked me. Anyway, if you live in Ok. I thought you might want to know what these guys were up to.

whelen35....

I'm afraid it doesn't just happen in OK. Here in PA, I was listening to the talk radio station this afternoon, ironically while picking up practice ammo and targets. The gun shop owner and I were both ready to :barf: at a lot of the comments being made.

I think a good idea would be to call the show and see if you can battle this "over the air". I'm sure as much as you'd find more insults from the general public, you'd probably find a little support from fellow gun owners too. Better yet, invite those wonderful "personalities" to accompany you to the range for an afternoon. Chances are they've never fired a gun in their life, and the experience may cause them to re-think things.

Even better idea: If you own any of these so-called "assault weapons," bring one along for them to try out. I wasn't much one for them until a friend of mine let me pop off some rounds on an AR-15. Afterwards, I've found them to be just plain FUN (and I'm more of a handgunner than a rifleman)!

I quit listening to the morning radio drivel back in high school. Never was anything good on... and besides, controversy draws more attention (read: listeners) than agreement.

Thank God for CD players. ;)

Well, it seems to me that to solution is to listen to their show.

Specifically, listen to their advertisers. Pay close attention. Take down their names. Then, call them, and tell them why you'll never buy their products.

In fact, I'll do it tomorrow morning, and post the business/product names and contact info here sometime tomorrow. All you guys have to do is watch this space, then call later.

Sound fair?

Flyboy, I'm game... And sorry to say, I've never heard of these guys. I'm in the Tulsa area, are they on here or in OK City?

J

Jack and Ron are the morning guys on 98.9 KISS here in OKC. They're hilarious. At least that's the impression I get from their laughing at their own jokes... :rolleyes:

I emailed them again last night and wasn't so polite this time. They mentioned my email this morning again but only read a small part of it. They were backing up a little on what they had said about me from the day before. I think I hit someone's nerve, and I don't think it was just theirs. Flyboy, sounds like a good idea, count me in. I also think I will email them again tonight and invite them to go shooting with me.

OK, the only ads I heard during Jack and Ron (Oklahoma City's "sick, twisted jacka**es," to borrow their own phrase) were for:

US Cellular (new player to the local market, and probably susceptible to pressure for that reason);
Big Red Sports & Imports (whose commercials are among the most obnoxious ever produced, and should be avoided on those grounds alone);
Blue Cross/Blue Shield's new dental plan (hrm, isn't BC/BS already on the NRA's Least Wanted list? Complaining to these guys might hurt us more than it helps);
McDonald's (does anybody know how their advertising is handled? As they're a franchise business, I'm guessing it's fairly local).

I don't have time to look up contact info right now (off to class), but I think US Cellular would be a particularly good target for a call-in campaign, as they're trying to claw out a foothold in a new market right now, and are likely to be sensitive to things that torque off their potential customers.

What'd they say on your offer to go shoot? I'd much rather educate them than slap them around with the market; the latter only breeds resentment.

Listen and see if it was a specific McDonalds that was advertised or not. Still wouldn't hurt to call the local McDonalds and voice displeasure. Did you happen to read Okiecruffler's answer to a Taco Hell employee and an earlier thread. It is hilarious(sp).

Kiss used to be a pretty good station to listen to. I haven't been to the city in a couple of years but it sound like the same two idiots. :D

I'll await the e-mail address too.

I seldom listen to a single station for very long ( a matter of seconds, then flip to something else ), but a couple weeks ago I heard them making fun of gun owners on their afternoon show. . .

So, their morning show is no better, I guess. . .

US Cellular

US Cellular's web site is at http://www.uscc.com. They don't list an e-mail address for customer service, but they do provide a form you can use to send them e-mail. They also provide a toll-free number for customer service: 1-888-944-9400.

Additionally, they provide contact info for their business services (as opposed to consumer services). Business customer service can be reached at 1-866-USC-4BIZ (1-866-872-4249), or through a different form. As a small business owner, I think I'll be calling both numbers. I do recommend calling, over the web form. Snail mail is probably good, too.

They have a store finder, for those who prefer to work at the local end of things; it's at http://www.uscc.com/uscellular/SilverStream/Pages/r_zips.html?call=17.

Their web site also lists their executive management, if you want to personalize the letter. Follow the "About Us" link.

Yahoo! Finance lists the following about the company (AMEX stock symbol USM):
United States Cellular Corp
8410 West Bryn Mawr, Suite 700
Chicago, IL 60631
Phone: (773) 399-8900
Fax: (773) 399-7054
E-mail: publicaffairs&[email protected]
Web site: http://www.uscellular.com (both web sites seem to work).

Almost free speech Country

Since it's almost a free speech Country.:rolleyes: I understand the Media can and will say or take a stand on any subject they wish.:rolleyes: Or what they are told by their owners to say or what stand to take.:uhoh: With this in mind I really could care less about what some stupid media jerks try to imply about the end of the ASW Ban. It's ended and they can just start living with the facts:) And the facts are nothing bad is going to happen because the ASW Ban has ended. If anything good things will happen.;) Honest people can now be armed as well as the LE Officers have been armed. The bad guys never stopped being armed.:fire: ASW Ban or what ever it really was began in 84.:confused:

Well, you could just listen to BOB

Granted, Ron's kinda annoying, and Lisa isn't as hot as she once was, but the music is better. Me, I stick to my CD's. In the morning I'm usually on my way home from work, so it's Stevie Ray Vaugn if it was a good night, RUSH if it was a bad night, and RATM if it was night like last night.
