Just watched the 10 o'clock news, which had a quick featurette on a new kind of firearm (the newsies of course called it an assault weapon) made mostly of carbon fiber, that comes through the airport X-ray machine looking very much like a hair curler or some such innocuous device.

The TV showed somebody (ATF people perhaps?) holding the firearm, but one couldn't get much of a good look at it it the 4 seconds it was on.

Hadn't hear about this--what sort of a firearm is it?? Available to the general populace?? Caliber?? Accuracy??
 
Hmm. If you go all plastic except for barrel, maybe gas system, and some springs, I could see the thing looking like a hair curler.

Too bad it would likely not hold up very well to heavy use.
