Given the response from last week at our training session, from both gun owners and the legislators, and the need for more Michigan folks to interact with their legislators, we're looking at the possibility of a quarterly "Lunch with the Legislature" for gun owners. We'd look at holding these once per quarter, to be held at one of the Capitol office buildings, be a simple lunch brought in, probably for a small donation, and invite legislators to come and eat with us and visit. You'd be able to tell them what issues are important to you and get feedback from them on what is in the works, what the possibilities are, etc.
What we'd probably be looking at is having a room for an hour and a half to two hours, very simple "open house" style lunch. We'd offer sandwiches and a salad or whatever, and just leave it very informal..people would be welcome to wander in and out, and legislators as the same. If we know you're coming, we'll specifically invite your legislators.
We'd ask for RSVPs and invite the legislators of those coming, as well as committee members, etc.
The more visible gun owners are up there, the more we're going to get. Even if you're talking to legislators who aren't yours, you're getting across the idea that gun rights are important and are an issue they should give priority to. As we said..there's all kinds of groups up there asking for attention..we have to be as visible as we can in order to get the attention we need.
No committment required at this point as nothing is set, just doing some research to see if there's enough interest to warrant it.
