Michael Moore, whose anti-gun film "Bowling for Columbine" won the Academy Award tonight for Best Documentary, accepted his Oscar by attacking President Bush amid boos from the star-studded audience.

Moore said he believes in non-fiction despite the fact that "we live in a time with fictitious election results that elect fictitious presidents. We live in a time when we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons.''

Moore went on to exclaim, ''we are against this war Mr. Bush. Shame on you! Shame on you!''

His comments were greeted by a chorus of loud boos from the audience of 3,500, which included most of Hollywood's top stars.

Moore pressed on but was drowned out by music once the 45-second time limit on the speech was up.

Academy Awards host Steve Martin, appearing after Moore's speech, said it was an interesting scene backstage and that ''the Teamsters are helping Michael Moore into the trunk of his limo.''

After receiving the award, Moore remained unapologetic for his outburst.

''I'm an American, and you don't leave your citizenship when you enter the doors of the Kodak Theater. What's great about this country is that you can speak your mind,'' he said.

He said that, far from being appalled, many people in the audience stood up to applaud him and that he put ''America in a good light.''

''I showed how vital it is to have free speech in our country and all Americans have the right to stand up for what they believe in.''

Steve Martin's closing comment at the end of the awards ceremony was: ''To our men and women overseas watching, we are thinking of you and we hope you enjoyed the show, it is for you, good night.''

''I showed how vital it is to have free speech in our country..."

Yet you're willing to wrongly vilify people who support the 2nd Amendment, the Amendment which helps guarantee this right to free speech for the long term.

Shame on you MM. You are a disservice to your country.

Can you have an Oscar taken away if shown that your "documentary" was a pile of horse manure? If so we need to do an Arming America on MM and see if we can torpedo this baffoons career too.

It is a dirty rotten shame that no one in the first few rows had a bushel basket of over-ripe tomatoes to spare.

Well, I don't watch TV and personally consider awards shows to rank just below Reality TV as to their contribution to society but I must say, this story made me almost crack a smile. ;)

So now Mr Moore, who's more out of touch? A President fighting a ficticious war or you preaching to probably the most liberal captive audience assembled this year and still being boo'd off stage?

We exercised our right to free speech last night, and turned the TV off during his acceptance rant. I don't check my rights as an American off the door either.

I am wondering who was booing. The clip I saw was panning across a-list actors - harrison ford and such and they were not booing but smiling and laughing. Hopefully laughing at the idiot getting booed but I suspect they were laughing in agreement with what he said.

The booing came from the gallery in the balcony. The same hollywood elite that sat on their hands, gave the pos a standing O at the pre ocsar party the night before. They were afraid that the public would not like them if they were seen giving this pos a standing O.

This guy will do anything for shock appeal. That is what he does. Ignore him. Nothing will infuriate him more. He is an un-person. Besides, his movies are the worst sort of pseudo-intellectual phoney crap. He does not exist as far as I am concerned.

Hey, watch what you say about Michael Moore, and Oprah.. They... resemble those remarks ;)

Seriously, Bowling for Colombine was/is just trash. It's not a documentary, a documentary is about trying to find out the facts leading up the an event, not what you think were the facts. That's called "fiction".

BfC is what I called a "Docu-fiction". So those who agree, please start referring to it as such.

Folks, he wasn't booed off stage for his views, he was booed for breaking 'the rules' - there was to be no anti-war diatribes. He was booed because his shoddy behaviour reflected badly on the Academy Awards. The Hollywood crowd liked, no, LOVED, his little propaganda piece - they gave him the friggin' "Best Documentry' award afterall. He was booed becasue he was CRASS, and rude to his hosts (and the rest of the Hollywood establishment, aka 'the audience'). Remember, they are the kings and queens of make-believe in La La land, and they like to make believe that they're 'real Americans', too.

Michael Moore = :barf: X 10 to the 23rd power.

I'm exercising (a concept foreign to comrade Moore) my rights as an American by not watching any of his "crockumentaries," particularly "Bowling for Columbine."

Roger Ebert was on the Tonight Show last night and he had some choice words for MMs comments on "only 5 loud people booing". He thought that MM started out with the audience in his hand and quickly alienated everyone.

Yep MM could of peddled the Brady org party line in a stiring 2 minute speech, but he has already used & abused that agenda.

the Brady org website has dropped the BFC link that was up yesterday and there is no Brady news item on the Oscar...

wanna right a BFC review?

Phony Populist

I'm waiting for the documentary on his personal lifestyle.

Based on his own rules, he is fair game. Let's see how much of his time is spent in Limo's and in a nice big house with fences. How close does he really come to living the lifestyle he purports to idolize.

He will do anything and say anything to extend his 15 minutes. He basically went away after Roger and me for six years. Then he decided to exploit the tragedy at Columbine for his own fame and fortune. (Anybody ever ask how much of his revenue he is contributing to the families that lost loved ones?)

He really wants to be the poster boy for the far left.

I hope he succeeds. The lefties still think their problem is they didn't get their message out. The more they do the fewer people that will vote for them.

What did Ted Nugent say; "I say let all the stupid people talk, then we know who the really stupid people are". Here here Ted.

Moore's a hypocrite and so were the people in that audience. They might not have liked the fact that he embarrassed them by going too far but they certainly believe that he is right about guns and the "gun culture." I think it was more about looking bad in front of America, which is what Hollywood is really concerned about. Off-camera they will work to make sure guns disappear and the utopia arrives.
