michigan black powder laws?

If I want to purchase a ruger old army cap and ball revolver in the great state of Michigan does this require a handgun inspection permit? I tend to think that it doesnt since cap and ball revo's arnt considered firearms here (right?) but Im not sure. thanks.

Hey pezo...In the great State of Mich,Black powder handguns are considered handguns and you DO need a permit to purchase and the inspection cert...I had to go through all that last year...Enjoy....

yes for some reasone Blackpowder handguns have to be done just like modern handguns ...Guess they figure you might do a drive by with that single shot blackpowder pistol .. Course with the ruger you get 6

Handguns kept solely for the purpose of display, as relics, curios, or antiques not made for modern ammunition or permanently deactivated are exempt from the registration and sale provisions.

An antique firearm is defined as:

(a) A firearm not designed or redesigned for using rimfire or conventional center fire ignition with fixed ammunition and manufactured in or before 1898, including a matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap, or similar type of ignition system or replica thereof, whether actually manufactured before or after the year 1898. (b) A firearm using fixed ammunition manufactured in or before 1898, for which ammunition is no longer manufactured in the United States and is not readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade

according to this description of Michigan law definitions I found on NRA site. It wouldnt seem so.

If all you want to do is put it on a wall or keep it in a case..You don't need to register it...BUt if you go that route,don't decide to get caught with it out in the bush...I can't imagine what the "spanking " would be,but at the very least I bet you'd lose the gun.
