As I drove to the college to teach yesterday I was listening to Bob Bower Outdoor World on the radio (97.1 on FM, 7:30 a.m. Saturdays).

Apparently there is legislation pending that will prohibit the use of lead in fishing lures. Bower was detailing how the law is to be phased in, over about 3 years. Someone asked about muzzleloading and he responded that the effect will eventually be to exclude ALL use of lead in outdoor sports.

Their concern was not only the added cost to sportsmen to buy equipment that costs 8X as much to work with substitute metals, but the effect it will have on Michigan's $1,000,000,000 (1 billion dollar) sports market. On a related note, there is also an efforts to force Michigan's legislature to dedicate 100% of Michigan sports revenue to conservation and hunting, not diverting it to off-set Michigan's politician-created financial woes.
