I have a Springfield Micro Compact 1911 that is a really sweet shooting pistol. Nice light weight, accurate, eats my reloads without a hicup. The recoil spring is a two piece deal with a longer diameter outer spring and smaller diameter inner spring. The pistol has functioned flawlessly, but the slide "sticks" or "catches" slightly when I rack it by hand. Does not seem to alter the function of the pistol, but it is not a smooth as I think it should be. My question is do others see this with their Micro's and is there anyway to "smooth out" the racking of the slide? My guess is that the initial resistance is from one spring and the "catch" I feel is the engagement of the second spring. Thanks.

Are you sure your not just feeling the slide push down on the disconnector and then the firing pin stop contacting the hammer and starting the cocking process? These surfaces can be polished and slick it up a little, but be carefull and do not remove metal, just polish. If it is shooting great, I don't know if I would bother it at all. It may not help much anyway.

It might be just that. It shoots fine so I'm inclined to just leave it alone. I was wondering if a new recoil spring might improve this.

Dumb question but I've gotta ask: when you manually rack the slide, are you "riding the slide" by holding on to it with your hand all the way into battery? If you are, this could be causing the 'stick' that you are experiencing. Proper racking of a slide should be completely letting go of it when pulled back and letting the spring do all the work. (apologies if you know this.)

If this is not the case, I'd still leave it alone, if your micro compact 1911 is functioning flawlessly, any tinkering around may mess up the reliability. Officer's size guns can be incredibly temperamental (mine is).
