Ok, in a 357MAG top end loads are 125gr and 158gr JHP "full Power" and said to be tops for self defense and the bottom end is 38 Spec 158gr Lead Hp at the minimum. My question is there any mid level factory ammo? I know the 125gr Golden Sabers are a "reduced" load are there any others? Also where would 357mag 158 lead WC come in on the list?
Thanks for any replys :)

I think Pro Loads has a 125 gr 357 Mag load that is around 1150 FPS.

Cor Bon have a 38+P+ that is about 1100 fps.

Winchester has their Ranger 110 gr 38+P+ load thatis about 1050 fps (IIRC)

Just about all the factory loads now are midrange loads. To get real magnums you have to buy CorBon or ProLoad or Garrett or you get the idea. The Remington 125 load is one of the only ones with any zip left.

Most poeple have never shot true magnum loads or have forgotten how stout they were.

Mid-range is kind of subjective. A good place to start is what type of firearms, and what barrel length are you asking about? What feels midrange will be greatly changed, as your barrell gets shorter. I think more info is needed before we answer this question.

The 125-gr. Remington Golden Saber is considered a mid-range load. Most 158-gr. full power Magnums kick a little less than their 125-gr. brethren because, while the bullet is 38 grs. heavier, it's also a tad slower.

A couple of mid-range loads are the Blazer 158 grain HPs, loaded to nominally 1150 fps from a 4 inch barrel and I believe Black Hills makes a moderate 158 grain load also, though I've never even seen any let alone shot any Black Hills. Blazers don't extract as smoothly as brass cased ammo but they are decently accurate, mild to shoot, and priced reasonable. Their hollow point has in the last couple years been reduced to little more than a dimple, however. I think most 158s are loaded to approx 1240 fps from a 4 inch barrel, at least in theory.

I agree, most of the big label .357 stuff is closer to "mid range".

The Blazer 158gr JHP's are mild recoiling in my M-28 and very accurate.:)

Having tried it, it is definitely loaded light... but still has one hell of a muzzle flash. I was pretty disappointed with it for that reason.
