About 3 weeks ago in the middle of the afternoon my phone rang. The voice on the other end I recognized as a friend and gunsmith that works at my favorite gun shop. He called me by name and said "I just got a trade in that you may just want to see, I have never seen one of these." Oh! What have you got? What he had was a pristine virtually unfired mid-night black 6 inch model 686, line on the cylinder so faint it is nearly imperceptible, no brass on the shield, not a scratch anywhere, with what looked like a little bullet lube on the breech end of the barrel, with a set of rubber Hogue grips Four hundred dollars later and I'm out the door. It laid on my desk for a week when I tore it down. The inside looked like it had just come off the end of the line. I meticulously cleaned and lubed and with one last wipe with a Shield soaked rag it went into a heavy zipper lock bag and on to the safe. I realize that it may not be the greatest find but with only a production of 2500 someday a revolver like this just might be a nice collector. The serial number starts BBE----. Maybe the forum members would like to start a registry of these; it would be facinating to see how many could be accounted for. I will eventually get this one lettered. I think that I will now be looking for a 4"er so that it won't be too lonely. That's my first L frame so it feels out of place with the K's and N's. I kept it hidden from my son until I got it cleaned up, it took a pick handle to get it out of his hands. LOL I thought you fellows might enjoy the interesting story about the acquistion. Beware that those who bought and used them complained that the finish was weak and easily wore off. So you might consider keeping it the safequeen that it has been.

bought one of them when they first came out for $425. Just wanted a regular stainless, but my dealer wanted to move it and I did not pay a premium for it. The finish is VERY weak. I swear I put it down on the table gently and it came up with scratches. It is now a well worn field piece with a lot of memories.
