Any ideas if this safe might be suitable: http://www.gunsafes.com/American-Security-60-Minute-Fire-Resistant-Gun-Safe-16-Gun-SF5924.html

I recently found out that a family member of mine might be at risk for self injuy and need a good safe for my long guns and pistols.

While I keep everything unloaded right now and ammo seperated from weapons, this person is intelligent and could probably figure out how to make things work if they felt like it.

I have 5 long guns and one pistol:

1 Remington 870 Wingmaster w/ 26" barrel
1 Remignton 870 Express w/ 18.5" barrel
1 Beretta A391 Xtrema2 w/ 24" barrel
1 Springfield M1A w/ 18" barrel
1 Marlin 795 w/ 18" barrel

1 Smith & Wesson M&P .40 caliber handgun

I would like the fireproof safe as I have some important documents that I would lke to put in this thing as well. While I only have 6 weapons currently I can easily see myself double or tripling that in the next 10-15 years. Any problems with putting a heavy safe in a second story bedroom?

Also, I'm considering a biometric pistol safe for my handgun so i can have easy access to it by my bedside. Are the biometric scanners reliable for quick access?

Something like this:

Looks like a suitable safe.

Personally, I would get a standard combination lock. Not as handy, but arguably more reliable.

For a night time bed stand safe, the biometric idea might be OK.

Just how crazy is the guy? Plenty of other ways for him to off himself.

Like this? Mine has a mechanical lock which I prefer for this type of application. I don't have any first hand experience with the bio boxes but was told by a friend that his works about 1/2 the time. Tried to upload a pic, but had trouble. It is bolted to my bedframe.

Purchased online at www.fas1safe.com and used this coupon during checkout for a 25% discount. Coupon appears to still be good.

I have a Winchester with a 2 1/2 hr. fire rating.I played around with a small safe for 10yr. just get one that will hold everything you plan on owning.I didn't.And had gun's hid all over the house. Now everything is in one spot and i love it.Just the peace of mind knowing there safe when I'm not home is great.

Sell them or store them off site.

Firearms aren't the only way for someone to inflict grief and gain publicity.

I can get you a heavier built safe for less money (including shipping), and if it's an emergency, can probably get it to you in less than a week.

You can PM me if you would like.
