Mildly disappointing new savage problems

So in my other thread I spoke of how excited I was to get my new savage model 12 vlp with the heavy 26 inch barrel


In all of my excitement when I looked it over I missed that the magazine has some excessive play in the mag well it can move over a 1/4 inch of up and down wiggle it is upsetting to know I bought a very expensive rifle and it’s not working properly out of the box :(*



*the excessive magazine play it doesn’t sit high enough in the mag well so when it goes to pick up a round it skips over it


It is now effectively a single shot :oops:


I hope and believe savage will make it right but I am still upset I just got it broke in and the gorgeous scope mounted

so I’m a bit :fire::fire::fire:
 
Is there any way you could shim it up so it catches properly. I know you shouldn't have to on a brand new rifle, or is it going to make a road trip to savage for repair.

Not sure tbh it fit and feed from my friends model 12
 
I’ve been tempted to buy another 12, but in the VLP instead of the BVSS, but I default back to the fat palm swell and grip angle of the original Varmint model, rather than the new Low Profile... so maybe I’m fortunate in that decision - the Savage DBM’s I have had have all needed some tweaking to get running, while the basic blind box is pretty infallible.

Yes moving forward I am going to have to strongly consider the blind box mag both of my savages are having magazine problems

I’m sorry amigo, I was focused on other things yesterday eve, so I did neglect to mention, however - whether Savage remedied them, or a little home tinkering, I’ve been able to correct any out of the box issues I have had.

Which part did Savage end up sending you?

no worries good sir

the part they sent me was the magazine well with the lever to release the mag I’m hoping it fixes it not sure if it will but fingers crossed
 
Let us know how it goes. Nice of them to send the bottom metal - hopefully the new latch is appropriate length and resolves the issue.
