I have some boxes of Argentinian millitary 45 ACP ammo marked Fabrica Militar "Fray Luis Beltran" 11.25 x 23 mm, COMUN LOT. MUN. 5 - FLB-78. It's copper coated round nose.

Question is if this ammunition has corrosive primers and is alright to shoot. I assume the FLB-78 dates it 1978, but not sure. I'm pretty sure it's berdan primed and not reloadable, so maybe I should just toss it.

I would be afraid to shoot it. One can buy fresh .45ACP Federal 'Champion' ball ammo for $17/50 at Walmart.

If it is Berdan primed, I would assume it is corrosive, just to be on the safe side.

But I certainly would not toss it.

Shoot it and clean well afterwords.

Or pull the bullets and reload them.

shoot it up and then remove your grips and spray the whole thig down a couple of times with Gun Scrubber.....then oil 'er up

Thanks much. With due consideration I have settled on a compromise. Being berdan primed it's not worth trying to reload and the ammo is cheap. But it is usable with thorough cleaning, so it would it be a waste to toss. What I'll do is sell it to someone I don't like.

If it's real old and you decide to use it one of the slugs might not leave the barrel. I suspect that is how my buddy bulged barrel of his Webley & Scott .38S&W. I told him not to shoot that 200gr 50s vintage English stuff.

Just wash the barrel out with plenty of soap and water when you are done shooting it. Simple Green works great as a barrel and gun cleaner. Just ask any black powder shooter.
