Military Rifle Parts Count

With all the debates over which military rifle is better/more simple/reliable, etc, I'd love to start a "Parts Count" thread. How many parts, in total does each rifle have, in basic form? Thats would be interesting to see.

Good to know, if possibly misleading; lots of guns have needlessly complex stock attachments that don't really affect reliability/complexity from a user perspective. Also, many low count guns get there with very complex dual-duty components.

Depends on use and design. A flintlock musket is pretty simple compared to a self loading magazine rifle, but the self loader has more functionality.

I saw the answer to this on ar15.com a long time ago. It was the AR vs AK.
When you got right down to it there wasn't that much of difference between the 2 as far as major parts. Semi-autos from the WW2 era typically have a lot more parts

only thing I could think of doing would be pulling up Numrich and going through the parts list. Have to not count some due to variations and "add on" parts that might not be military though

Well, I am pretty sure that the Arisaka type 99 has the simplest breechbolt/safety/extractor/firing system of any military rifle. It is all contained in the bolt assembly and the whole thing consists of just six parts.

The Mosin bolt, incorrectly labeled "complicated" has only 7 parts: cocking knob, firing pin, firing pin spring, bolt body, guide, bolt head, and extractor.
