With all brands of new camo availible, I still like the good old woodland BDU's. I like the new stuff, don't get me wrong but the woodland works good in hardwood forests and laurel. And its super in low light conditions such as a foggy day or drizzle. My BDU's seem to out last commercial made top shelf stuff too, I guess I'm outa style these days!

We still used the woodland BDUs when I retired from the AF in 1990 and loved em. I've still got two sets in near perfect condition along with the field jacket and pants. Then they came out with a new pattern. 1st time I saw them I thought the guys were painters with a bunch of paint slopped all over the uniform. The desert pattern really fits in good for prairie hunting though, 'specially during antelope season.

When we were is basic Drill SGT asked us why we joined the Army. We went round the barracks. Jumping up standing at parade rest and giving our reasons. This one guy jumps up and says something like. Drill SGT, PVT Smith joined the Army because he needed new hunting clothes, Drill SGT.

This was about the first time I saw our drill bust up laughing. I am sure several push-ups were preformed but what an answer.

I still use my gore-tex, poncho-liner, matterhorn boots, poly-pro, and several other things uncle sugar provided for hunting.

I have the woodland camou M 65 field jacket. Its what i use with the warmer liner inside during deer season.
Spring time i use olive drab Vietnam green pants and just dark colored t shirt when temp reaches 70 F and higher. If its early morning and in the 60s, i have my woodland bdu .

I have some uniforms left over somewhere, but I don't think dungarees and a white hat would be good hunting camo!
I do hear that the NEW Navy uses a blue patterned camouflage outfit.I had to go to an official site before I would believe it. GAH!
Personally, my all time favorite camo that I CANNOT for the life of me find, is the old Rhodesian stuff. I tried to get some repros, and they were terrible, still have the hat somewhere. If I could find good BDUs in Rhodesian, I would, (insert favorite scatological joke here), in public! Well, maybe not.

I prefer the Russian version of woodland camo, Flora. It's a better pattern overall, and I find their BDU's are more comfortable. Less movement-inhibiting and fewer bulky pockets to get in the way.

@ skyshot , you are not out of style and you are correct woodland is better in the forrest , however most of the new camo, like multi-cam is trying to cut costs by being "relatively" good in all areas as opposed to being excellent in one area and useless in another , so if you know you will never need camo anywhere else than in a forrest you would be better off with your old woodland camo , and stylewise , hell I technically live on the savannah , very few trees but I still wear a woodland camo jacket , because it hides stains better than anything else :D

I use my old woodland BDU's as well. They work perfectly three seasons out of the year in my area. I've looked at the multicam, and it's nice and would work late summer through the first snowfall, but it's cost prohibitive. I'm not spending nearly $100 on a set.

I still hunt in a M65 field jacket which just happens to be military woodland camo. I do have this 3D camo that's REALLY good. This stuff is demonstrably good. Ducks think I'm a tree. :D I like that suit for ducks, but like Art says, other than ducks or turkey, not much need for camo at all. Cracks me up watching hunting shows where they're all camoed out (usually sponsored by Real Tree or something) sitting in a friggin' box blind. But, hey, it's style as you guys say. :D I always wear camo to a Ted Nugent concert. :D

I have mixed feelings on camo. I do use the woodland BDU's periodically. Works fine. But many times I just wear blue jeans and a dull colored shirt. It also works fine. I usually move very slow through the hunting areas and I feel the lack of or slow movement can conceal you very well.

I might ruffle some feathers but I think that for hunting, camo is a scam. I prefer dark, solid earthtones but I still have a soft spot in my heart for woodland camo.

Military use is a little different.

What do I care about camo when I have to wear a blaze orange vest and hat and blaze orange on my pack as well? I wear Carhart pants and a earth tone shirt and call it a day.
Exactly!

Camo's camo. Various types work. I wear what I'm comfortable in. Went scouting yesterday in my tan issued boots, and a pair of old summer weight BDU pants. I have some hunting camo stuff, if I feel like it during turkey season I'll wear some of the lighter military camo stuff, or I wear my hunting camo.

When it comes to blaze orange I wear the type that's got a camo type pattern to it so there's some break up. Deer don't see colors the way we do, as long as you have a dark earth tone that can break up your outline you're good to go. After that it's personal choice. I have some stuff that was in the Cabela's bargain bin, and some high end Under Armour stuff. I wear it because it's comfortable.

The military BDU pants are the toughest, best hunting pant for the money. Don't care much for the woodland camo pattern though. too dark for most terrain. I use the BDU pants most all the time, but tend to use the solid OD green or khaki most often.

There is a large military surplus store near here and I can usually find "Irregular" pants for $15. I've found the new multi-cam works better for most terrain if I do wear camo.

Try this from cabelas. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Atla...multicam+bdu&WTz_l=Header;Search-All+Products

Just a photo of a pair of the multicam BDU's I got when I googled it. Shouldn't be a problem with that website. Surely you can get to Cabelas website.

I really like the BDU style pants for hunting. They are generally cheaper than commercial hunting pants and much better constructed with a better fit for outdoor use. For deer hunting I could care less really about camo. I wear the pants that work best. If they are camo or solid drab colors matters little either way. For ducks, turkey or archery deer camo is a real help.

Thanks for the imput guys. My nephew and his buds were giving me some grief over my woodland stuff as being out dated. Of course I told them to go look at what was hanging on my wall and what was on thiers. It ain't the camo that makes the hunter now is it. I'm trying to find me a set of the "classic treebark" camo. That will get these punks fired up, I don't think they even know what treebark camo is. Should be fun when I show up with it on!:what:

IMHO camo is another product of effective marketing much as the latest, greatest whiz-bang magnum. When I'm deer hunting here in Texas, I almost always wear jeans and a brown duck material jacket; the same jacket I wear every day. Elk hunting it's either jeans or earth tone wool pants and a plaid wool jacket (the old red/black plaid pattern)or coat (dark green plaid), Dove hunting I might put on a camo shirt if I'm hunting an open area, but usually just a tan t-shirt. I don't duck hunt anymore, but when I did as a kid, I'd wear whatever I wore everyday to keep warm as I learned early on that hiding well was more important than what I wore.

The only time I absolutely wear camo 100% of the time is when spring turkey hunting, but even then I don't obsess over patterns. The primary purpose of camo is to break up the hunters outline and the "best" camo in the world won't hide your movements.

I get a kick out of the typical deer hunter here in Texas. They dress to the 9's in the latest camo, then hop on a 4-wheeler and drive to an enclosed deer blind where they sit cleverly hidden from any deer that might be in the blind with them!

I think camo has become "fashion". Just like you wear a cowboy hat when you go to a rodeo, you wear camo when you go hunting.

This guy can attest to that.

And yeah, I agree on old BDUs. I separated from the Air Force in late 2008, right before they adopted the new uniform. I removed the patches and stripes from my set, and I'll be using them for hunting for quite a while.

my ABUs dont blend in with anything...... i hate them

too bad BDUs arent gonna be allowed anymore after next month or id be willing to spring the cash on them
