Milled receiver AKs

Could someone give me a list of brands/manufacturers of milled receiver AK clones? Thanks.

Edited for the semantic police. :)

Isn't "milled AKM" an oxymoron? I thought that one of the defining characteristic of the AKM was the switch from the milled receiver used on the AK-47 to a stamped receiver. Yes, I know that the very first AK-47's had stamped receivers, but a switch was made to milled receivers very early on, and they didn't go back to stamped receivers until the AKM.

There is no milled AKM clone. But its nothing but a technicality. Everyone knows exactly what is being refrenced.

If you want to be picky about it all AKM's and clones are stamped. Milled rec. guns are just AK's or AK clones. Not AKM.

But like i said its not like your actually going to confuse someone by saying i want to buy a milled AKM and end up getting a stamped one because of it.

I'm not trying to be picky -- just trying to learn. I thought maybe my understanding was wrong, and that there were in fact milled AKM's, in which case I wanted to understand what differentiates a milled AK-47 from a milled AKM.

Sorry if I offended anyone.

No offense taken. Of course, calling it an AK-47 is false too, since I'm not looking at full-auto bang bang goodness either. :)

While we're nitpicking, where can I get some bullet clips for it?

lancaster also does milled AK's. i have one of their stamped rifles, and am pretty happy with it, as seem most lancaster owners.

lol, actually i think you really can call ak mag's magazines. Its my new understanding that it can still be called a magazine even if it isnt fixed. Though i may be wrong....

Anyway. I just saw a milled bulgarian (polish AKMS type stock) underfolder in the most recent shotgun news that came in today. Its the first milled underfolder in 7.62x39 that i have seen in mass production. I wonder how tightly that stock locks up vs. the yugos. People do complain about the wobble and i have heard it blamed on the stamped rec's

Krebs, Lancaster, Arsenal, Hell even a few of centurys M70's are more then necissary.

Do you have more info about this? Who is selling it? Website link?

Arsenal makes it. Ill find the promo and get the exact designation and price and all sometime tonight if you want. It sure did look sharp though. Only other folders ive seen Arsenal make are the sidefolders. A milled PKMS pattern 7.62x39 underfolder is kind of a rare bird in the mass production AK clone world. Thats why it cought my eye.

I very much agree with you. A Bulgarian milled receiver AK variant is rare as hens teeth, not to mention an underfolder. I have an SLR-95 that I think is the bees knees. I did not think that Bulgarian, Hungarian or Russian milled receivers were imported at all into the USA any longer. Those types of milled AK receivers are the best of the bunch, in my opinion. If Arsenal is going to produce and sell a run of a Bulgarian milled receiver AK rifles (especially if it is with a hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel), I would buy one in a heartbeat.

I have lamented the absence of the milled Eastern European receivers on the market. The Bulgarian (SLRs) and Russian (VEPRs) milled receiver rifles were impeccable. It is a shame that rifles like them are no longer imported and sold.

If Arsenal is truly getting together a run of Bulgarian milled receiver rifles, that is a rare opportunity indeed in today's world and one to definitely take advantage of. I'll check out their website and see what it says.

Do you know what model number Arsenal assigned to it?

I checked Arsenal's website and they don't have anything posted about a new run of Bulgarian milled receiver AKs.

Arsenal was making milled receiver underfolders several years ago, but my understanding is that Arsenal hasn't made any new milled receiver guns recently. And the ones they did make were quite expensive ($1,000+). You can still find them for sale on Gunbroker.

I have a fixed stock milled receiver Arsenal. It's their model SA M-7S, and it's a fine firearm.

Those of you with milled receiver AKs (AKMs, Kalashnikovs, whatever!), what kind of accuracy are you getting out of them? Are they scoped? How do they compare with any stamped rifles you have?

I have a Kobra red dot (non-magnified) on my Arsenal. I haven't really tested it for accuracy. I sighted it in at 50 and 100 yards with cheap Wolf ammo, and from the bench it was easily holding pie plate size groups at 100 yards. I suspect it would be somewhat better with quality ammo, and some more effort at trigger control, but I can't tell you it would be 1 or 2 or even 3 MOA.

I don't have a stamped AK, so I can't compare. The Arsenal is my only AK.

I'm going to try and get to the range this weekend, I'll run some through the hungarian stamped, a polish stamped, and a bulgy milled and post results. I'll also run quick accuracy tests through the galil and M95 to get a 5.56 comparison.

Two of my AKs are scoped (VEPR and Saiga). One has a zero magnification collimator and the other has a 1.7X magnification scope, so neither are magnified very much.

I have generally been able to get 4 MOA groups at best with my AKs using Wolf ammo, but group sizes up to 6 MOA are not uncommon. I think this is very respectable.

My stamped receiver Saiga is a nice rifle. It is obviously lighter than my two milled receiver AKs. But the fit and finish of the milled receiver rifles is on a higher level than that of the stamped rifle. When you hold the rifle in your hands, it appears overall to be a nicer rifle. The trigger pull is much smoother on the VEPR and SLR95 than on the Saiga. The milled receiver rifles are also a little more rigid than the stamped rifle. This is noticeable just by striking the butt of the rifle with the palm of your hand and feeling for any flex. I really like the stamped Saiga just fine and I really don't think it is an inferior rifle to the milled receiver ones. The milled receiver rifles are just a little bit nicer though.

You seem to be suggesting that your VEPR and SLR95 have milled receivers. The SLR95 does, but the VEPR does not. The VEPR uses a stamped receiver. While the VEPR is heavier than other stamped AK's, that's because it uses a much heavier gauge of steel (1.5 mm, IIRC) and is in fact based on the RPK light machine gun rather than the AK-47. So the VEPR is heavier and probably stiffer than a standard stamped AK, but it's not a milled receiver.

You know, I've owned VEPRs for years and always thought they were milled. Learn something new every day. ;-)

Ok ive got the add in front of me. Its on page 22 of volume 61 issue 29 dated october 10th 2007.

Its the one on the bottom. They are calling it the SAS M-7 and its by arsenal inc. MSRP is not listed, and the other 3 guns in the add are all variations of the SLR-106 being described above it.
It Reads:
SAS M-7
Caliber 7.62x39
US made, 7.62, milled receiver, 14mm
muzzle threads, cleaning rod, bayonet
lug, black polymer furniture, collapsible
underfolding buttstock

Its a milled underfolder that looks like the polish rear end (underfolding stock), it has the bulgarian type black poly forends, no slant brake, just a muzzle nut, also had the 'longer' front sight like on the yugos but no flip up night signt.

It says to contact one of the four of these for ordering them:
Lew horton dist, AmChar Wholesale, RSR group, and Ellett Brothers.

If you cant find those businesses online it gives phone numbers for them all. If i make it down stairs ill scan the flyer in a bit.
