I have a series 180 (yes, yes, I'm putting it on the auction block as soon as it's fixed) that had a broken extractor. I purchased a replacement from Brownells for $50. Ouch. I also replaced the extractor plunger and plunger spring, which flew out when the extractor broke.

The plunger design is perplexing me. The extractor has a groove cut into the side of it that would suggest that the long end of the plunger is supposed to ride inside the groove. However, the hole that the spring and plunger fit into at such an extreme angle that the plunger appears to contact the extreme muzzle end of the groove, rather than in the middle of it where I would expect.

Also, the plunger shape and location seems better suited for cupping around the outside edge of the extractor.

Does anyone have a 180 they can look at or does anyone happen to know how the plunger is supposed to be oriented in relation to the extractor on the 180? The plunger design hasn't changed, so maybe it's oriented the same in later models as well.

By the way, I will be taking this to a gunsmith, but I'd like to be armed with some knowlege before I go.

Thanks.
