Mini-14 gas port guestion.

I wish I knew. The manual tells us not to mess with it.

The reason I'm so interested is that fresh out of the box my Mini-14 had the two sides unsymetrical. On the stern side some threads are visible while the port side shows none. I've had no problems, but a part of me wonders if this is correct.

Fact: Bullets go right through restraining orders.

How about the starboard and the port side ? The stern is the back of the vessel, not one of the sides.

When I installed my adjustable gas block from Brownells, I think the original block had the screws about the same and I installed the adjustable block with the screws all the same. Great to control case tossing distance and quick to adjust for different ammo.

A good way i picked up was to tighten the screws up while holding the shorter 'leg' of the allen key. Once it gets sore to turn, its torqued up. Not exactly scientific but worked for me.
Its a good idea to use feeler guages too to make sure the gaps are even...

Lap your block halves on something you know is flat. Tighten the cap screws in small increments working in an x sequence until they are tight and the gap looks the same side to side and front to rear. If you want to get anal you can use a feeler gage but eyeballing will get you close enough.
