Ruger rings and I like low power scopes on them. What are you plan on using it for hunting, truck gun, HD and so on will help make the scope choice.
If your looking for fast short distance shooting use a red dot.

Before scoping a mini14 you should have it re-barrelled. The gun is not real accurate with follow up shots.

Ruger only claims a 5-6 inch group at 100 yards. They have come out with a new"improved" target model with an adjustable harmonic dampener and a slightly heavier barrel, but it is not as good as the aftermarket heavy barrels.

That being said, I really like the mini, just hate the out of the box accuracy.
Try these guys

Whoa whoa whoa, don't re-barrel the gun. It is a new gun and does not need a new barrel. The biggest problem with the Minis is barrel whip. You eliminate this and can easily cut your groups in half. A muzzle brake will help or something like the accu-strut or har-bar will eliminate it. $10-80 is a WAY better deal than a new barrel ($250+).

QBPC is right about perfectunion, it is really nice to be able to ask questions about your mini without AR/AK fanboys jumping on you.
(Not a bash on those owning those guns, I want one too.)

Scoped Mini

Shot with Ruger Mini .30 with Bushnell Sportview ($39.95 @ Wal-Mart) 4x32 scope in Ruger rings @ 75 yards. My Mini 14 would do the same with the same scope. Ammo was 122gr hollow points by China Sports. P.S. this was shot by my (then) 16 year old daughter Sarah. Sarahstarget2.jpg

wow:what: - Sarah shoots better than i do.

I hope you spoke to her about those 3 offcenter hits!!!

Charlie505, it was a cold and windy December day. Those were her first shots with the Mini ever so she was a little nervous. That group was 20 rounds from the same magazine from a rest. She burned a LOT of powder that day! I always trot this target out when people start dissing the accuracy of Ruger's minis.

Mini glass

Oh, BTW, the affore mentioned scope has been replaced after 8 years of service. The Mini .30 finally shook it apart.

She is a great shot.

I have a mini14 - great gun - fun to shoot and reliable.
I get more jams with my AR15

A good scope for a ranch rifle is the Trijicon TR21 1.25-4X
It uses what is called the Bindon Aiming Concept and it is lightning fast, it has a tritium element and also uses fiber optics for light gathering to illuminate the post and triangular reticle.

When the magnification is turned down the triangle is an 11 MOA triangle reticle when the magnification is at 4X the triangle is 4 MOA this is like having a large red dot sight for up close and a noticeably smaller one for medium range shooting the best of both worlds.
Kinda like having an Aimpoint or reflex type sight for up close use allowing for fast aiming especially in low light or under stress and a 4x scope with a small aiming point for more precise long range shots.

My second choice would be a Leupold VX II 1-4X scope it also allows you to employ the Bindon Aiming Concept its a very sturdy well built scope that can be found for a fairly lower price it does not have the tritium or fiber optics but for 95% of what most need from a scope it would work nicely.

Well, I might get bashed for saying this but I have my expensive tack drivers, then I have my working guns. My Mini-Ranch is one of my working guns, and I'm really enjoying the Tasco World Class 2.5-8x32 (or x28, not certain) on top of it.

It's working out real well for running rabbits on 2.5x (our rabbits are ~15-20 lbs and kinda slow) and 'yotes on higher power for the longer shots. I paid about $50 for the scope, and it's held up for over a couple hundred rounds thus far. I haven't put more than through it yet since it's a relatively new rig.
