Mini-14: now with factory hicaps for us serfs

That's the deal breaker. I understand this is a collectable, short run, etc, that's the high price, but offer the rifle in that same configuration without the NRA logos, and keep it to $600 or less. Then people will buy.

Too little too late for the Mini 14. At a time when it was positioned to take the market share politics stepped in and Bill Ruger ruined it.

At half the price of an AR they sold like crazy. At the same price or more? Why bother.....

Can't save this sinking ship with all the 'special editions' in the world....

It seems to me that Ruger is addressing the two main complaints witht the Mini 14 by making a rifle that is more accurate and by making high capacity mags more available.

What is with all the negative comments? Isnt it a good thing when a company caters to the requests of their customer base?

As for comparing it to the AR price wise...if this new rifle is as accurate as an AR, and mags are readily available...I would buy the mini over the AR in a heartbeat even if it were more expensive. I've always thought the AR was way overpriced for plastic and aluminum and I am glad there will be more options...

sheez...they only tacked on $200 to the MSRP for a $90 stock (probably costs them $45-50) and 2 20 round mags (probably cost them about $3-4 a piece to make) What a "great American firearm company" a lesser company would have price gouged and then made very few available at the end of the day just so they had something interesting to show off at the shot show this week.....hhhhmmmmm. :D

that said I like the 16" bbl. They oughta offer that...the mags and at the rehgular price....which is no big bargain anyway....and I say that having just bought one and liking it.

I like my Mini-14. However, I wouldn't pay extra for 1.25" less barrel, nor would I get anything but stainless.

Furthermore, if you live in a state where 20-rounders are banned, they ship 5-rounders with the thing. Not 10-rounders, 5-rounders.

The stock may cost them a few bucks, but they delete the standard stock, so the difference is probably a whole 5 dollars to them.

And that's a BLUED finish, not park'ed. As in, known for having problems if you don't clean the piston enough, and rust-prone. If I get a little carbine, I'd want stainless, like the one I have. Who the hell wants a BLUED gun like that?

(I love blue. And walnut. But not on that kind of gun with a Hogue stock, for that price.)

Like most of Ruger's stuff, the price is RIDICULOUS.

Gee I paid $325 back in 1996 for my stainless and it came with two 20 round magazines. I don' think it is going sell at that price. $1000 plus is a little hard to swallow for a Limited Mini 14.

I hate myself--but I look at the &^%$# thing and I want to believe that it *is* good--that redemption can come to pass--that THIS mini walks on water and will run circles around AR's besting them in accuracy and reliability; all those AR guys that have derided the 'minimal'-14 will be made to kow-tow as I grow taller by the second lifting the glowing mini skyward yelling 'you AR guys S-U-C-K!!!!'.

But then---- over 1000 bucks for a mini??? And the stock will have that 'creepy' feeling, won't it? And I already have a 185 series mini fixed up with a flash hider and an old Choate stock that works OK. And, darn it, I've lately come to desire an AR in fact.

Why, W-H-Y??? Ruger has made the Mini into a homewrecker; a tawdry hussie carbine that is now showing up in that little black dress to the 20 year HS reunion and working the room.

I agree that the thing is way overpriced. To compete with the $350-$600 AK's, which are really what it's competing with, it would have to be around $600 with reasonably priced mags (even $20 wouldn't be too bad IMO).
Ruger could sell it in stainless/synthetic with 5 mags and a "survival" kit like Mossberg does with their shotguns and they'd probably be able to sell them.
I don't think the Mini can compete with an AR.
And for about $1K, it certainly can't compete with an FAL.

One other thing, why the sarcastic tone with the title of the thread?
For years I've been reading about how angry everyone was about Ruger treating shooters like less than citizens.
Now that they are turning that around, people have a problem with that too.
What gives?

I honestly never thought I would ever see any center fire semi auto ruger rifle shipping with more than a 5 round magazine...

Its about time they realize that there IS a need for magazines over 5 rounds..

Read my mind...

Made me snicker... Add that she is 20 pounds over weight and has a bad make-up job...

Me either... and I suppose it is a good thing that maybe now they are converting from an anti-gun, gun company to something... different. Maybe too little too late... but for those poor saps who refuse to leave California and other bastions of communism (or heroic freedom fighters depending upon your POV) this would offer some small relief... except that that I think the maximum size magazine is ten rounds in all such places so this does absolutely nothing for them.

But no sane person with options who does the research work will buy one anyway. Unless they love Ruger that much. And I don't know anyone who does.

I just got off the phone with Ruger - NO, they are NOT selling the 20 round magazines to us yet, ONLY if you buy the NRA edition rifle. I expressed my displeasure politely. I will have to pick up a few more on the "open market".
