Mini-30 and AK-47 magazines

Has anyone tried using a Mini-30 with AK-47 magazines? Are the dimensions similar? The Mini and AK use similar magazine releases, and it seems to me that if a hole was drilled on the front of the magazine (like the ones on Ruger magazines) it should work.

I remember somewhere that modifying a mag to work in another gun was illegal. Modifying the gun itself was fine, but...

As long as the mag works in the original gun, you're fine legally.
