Hi,

I was looking around and found a site selling miniature keychain cannons. They say it can fire a bb (.188" bore) but don't list a load.

Just wondering if they are worth getting to fire off a couple times as a (still dangerous) gadget to play with.

The website I found is http://www.blackpowder-cannons.com/

I am not related to this site in any way.

Thanks

Yup, they're cute. Bet the charge is less than a couple of grains at best. Might be a bit more if using a touch of tissue for wadding for a blank only. Judging from the amount of metal in these little guys, I wouldn't get scared to pop one off anytime I felt like it.

Built two .45 cal cannons at my forge some years ago. They were crude, but they were fun to build. Couldn't hit a flock of barns over 45 feet. Simple steel tubing with a base welded in place. Simple little carriages and they were good to go. I have no idea where they went. Got lost in one the the many moves my wife decided we needed to do....

But back to the little cannons. Think I'll get with this guy and buy one of the larger ones he has. Then I'll have a baby brother for my old Barney's Cannons 1/5th scale Parrot 10#er.
That field gun in 38 cal. looks pretty good. The mortars?? Way cool!

Thanks for finding the site.

Wow now that's something every black powder enthusiest should have. Never heard of a key chain cannon that shoots a steel bb. Reckon what load it would use 1 to 2 grains of goex fffg?

I want the whole collection - that's COOL!
Now imagine carrying one of those loaded, and being attacked, fumbling for a match....OK, that's just goofy, but what a cool product!

He must really like cleaning up glass and sticky stuff in his apartment.
Not to mention repairing holes in the wall.

And whoever did all that nice machine work making the brass cannon put it together with Phillips-Head screws??

Mercy mercy mercy!

I was thinking about the complete lack of safety, actually, but it's his house. I've seen some very cool mini cannons, including some that you can actually carry as a keychain, and are perfectly functional black powder firearms.

Sure I've contemplated getting a cane and using it, I might need a suit, tie, and a hat to go along with it though. I'm to cheap for that. But I do have a lath, I've made quite a few mini cannons to play with. I have one in .24, some in .177, I have one that I bored out yesterday from .25 to .31 that I tested. It worked great! I love cannons! I usually make mine out of aluminum, but I might need to get some brass to try too. I'm thinking of making some to sell, I've been hankering for some more guns and need to buy the first gun of the year. Probably going to be a Colt!

Cool part is if they have a .25 bore, you can shoot black cats with them! They go a good distance then blow up like a Roman candle.

Levi,

Keep in mind that if you "sell" something like this some attorney will hold you (and your parents until you're 18) responsible should something go wrong. Liability suits are one of the reasons guns and airplanes cost so much money.
