I decided to end 2011 on a high note and picked up a 1911 style Coonan .357 Magnum. After taking it home and cleaning/lubing it, I took it to the range on Sunday. I only put one box through it but it performed with no issues and was an absolute blast to shoot with lots of muzzle blast.

I am surprised at how easy it is to shoot. I'm satisfied with my initial groupings, but am shooting a bit low. I'm sure the low shooting is my own fault as I can tell I'm anticipating the shot. After I get used to it I should shoot it as well (or poorly :)) as I do any other 1911.

Here is a short Video LInk

and of course - Pics

Been shooting a MDL.B for better than 20 years. Glad to see them back into production and hope they do well. Wouldn't trade mine off.

Cheers,

Thanks for the review, I've not heard much about these in some time. While I'm not much of a pistol guy, I have one of these tucked away near the bottom of my list (in the company of but a few other pistols)...good to know that it is performing as expected thus far.

:)

I had a Mdl B and sold it when mags weren't being made. I absolutely should have kept it. You have a special 1911 that should outlast your grandkids. Awesome.

Thanks for posting on this. I've been taking notice of of the .357 1911 and want one. Unfortunately I have a few other niches to fill first and not enough funds to get any of them yet. I really think the .357 mag is overlooked too much by pistol makers.

Cool gun...I just recently drained my gun fund but this is high on the list of "recommend to a friend so I can shoot it" guns.

Steve that video was fantastic. *BOOM* bam bam bam *BOOM* bam bam *BOOM* :D You must have drawn some attention from the other folks at the range, lordy what a magnificent report, mighty fine pistol.

Is the grip uncomfortabley large? The case on a .357 mag is quite a bit longer than .45 acp; I don't have girlie hands, but side by side comparison make the Coonan's grip look huge. Just wondering.

I don't have large hands either, and whilst the grip is a bit larger the svelte profile seems to make it adequate for a comfortable grip. That's my assessment, without having fired one, anyway.

:)
