In a word, wow!
My Serbu Super Shorty is now a genuine pleasure to shoot. My hands are not sore at all after firing 3 target loads and 3 full power 2-3/4" slugs. Not a lot, I know, but I had just finished shooting at the rifle range and I was getting hot and sweaty and tired from jogging back and forth to the target. My spotting scope is a piece of crap.
Before, I said the target loads kicked about like a .44 magnum, and the slugs like a .454 Casull. That was with the factory Mossberg grip. Now, I'd say they both kick about like different power .357 magnum loads from an L-frame with a nice, big grip. The difference the Pachmayr makes is that great.
I've never used a BreachersGrip, and now it looks like I never will. Don't see the point in paying 3 times as much, when the Pachmayr tames recoil this well.
The only downside to the Pachmayr grip is it's a little... floppy. When held one-handed, the gun sags downward a little bit. It'd probably be worse with a normal sized gun.
My Milllett Redot SP-01 seems to have held up fine under the recoil. It appears the Millett Redot's reputation for durability is well-deserved.
The Serbu consistently put 90% of the shot in 14" at that range, with Remington Gun Club 2-3/4 dram #8s. By my math, that's 80" at 40 yards, compared to a cylinder bore, which Wikipedia says should make a 59" pattern. So the short little barrel reduces velocity by about 20-25%, and increases spread by only 35.6%. Not too much of a reduction in effectiveness at all. I really want to try shooting skeet with it.
Accuracy with slugs was, to put it mildly, amazing.
7 yards. I just shot one, then aimed the other two at the hole. Believe it or not, all three slugs went through that one little hole. There were a bunch of other holes all over the place from the wadding, but that hole was the only one with lead rings around it. Wow! I don't even shoot normal pistols that good! I'm usually all over the place at 7 yards!
If that doesn't kill the myth that short barrels are inherently inaccurate, nothing will.
This thing is definitely my favorite gun.
