Hi,
I have a small problem with my LE trade in Glock 21 .45acp gen 04.
I've noticed a few times when I insert my loaded 13rd .45acp magazine into the Glock 21 quickly or with some force, the pistol slide slams forward :uhoh: without me using the Glock slide stop lever or manually lowering the 21 slide.
It's only happened a few times but I'm concerned this may happen in a CCW/use of force incicent or the problem may get worse over time.

I'm not sure if it's a Glock part, the magazine or the way I'm holding the frame as I insert the pistol magazine. I've owned the LE trade in model for about 10mo & fired approx 750 rounds thru it with 0 problems or misfires.
I plan to buy a replacement www.TangoDown.com Vickers slide stop & replace the Glock factory part anyways but I'm concerned the pistol might break over time.

I haven't personally experienced this on a Glock, and honestly it is something I wish they did. I loved it on my M&P and my CZ's. That being said, my experience with a Gen 3 17, 19, 23, 22, 22c, 21, 30, Gen 4 26, and Gen 4 19 has never seen that happen on any of them so I am going to say that it isn't normal. You can try to see if you can take it to an armorer and see if they can figure out why it is doing it or just wait until you replace the parts you are planning.

My M & P 45 did this, my Glock 19 does it occasionally. My 30SF does not. I prefer that it does, it's not any harder on the springs of slide stop. In fact I installed oversized slide stop leavers on all my Glocks. The stock Glock piece is way to small for quick reloads.

Armorer...

I may go to a local range and shoot another 230gr FMJ thru it; 100rd or so. If the problem continues, I will run it past the local Glock armorer.
As posted, it's less than a year too, so I could take it back to Glock in GA but I don't want to go that route unless the armorer says the Glock gen 04 21 .45acp can't be fixed.
I may trade the pistol in for a new SIG P320 in .40 or 9x19mm.

Does it happen with each magazine? I had an old Sig 228 that started to do this, apparently the slide release was a little loose and would hang into the mag well just enough to cause the magazine to activate it when inserting a mag.

Take a look at the angle of the surface of the notch in the slide that is engaged by the slide lever. It is not vertical, but angles slightly to the rear. I recall reading somewhere years ago that this is intentional, so that when a mag is forcefully inserted into the gun the slide will run forward chambering a round.

My early G17 does it and so does my gen4 G22. It's a feature, not a problem.

Firearms ....

I've been around firearms & pistols for nearly 30 years and I never saw any semi auto pistol ram forward like that without either using the slide release or "stop". Or by manually racking a round into the chamber.

I don't consider it a feature either. :uhoh:
I like to control the weapon not have it slam & bang w/o me touching it, :uhoh: .

I agree too, with the tiny amount of FrogLube CLP, it may have gone loose.

Some glocks do it. Most will IME if you slam a full mag in hard enough. My M&P does it every time with a full mag. I like it for competition... saves a bit of time.

ive seen steyrs do it..glocks do it....m&p9 and 40s do it and various other plastic pistols. I know nothing about it being a design feature. Cant comment on that..but it's fairly common. i am curious if it's a problem or "design feature"?
