I live in TX and have taken my CHL class. I have a non-violent, non-drug/alcohol related misdemeanor that will be 5 years old (from date of conviction) in March 2008. I have been waiting to turn in my paperwork because I don't want to get rejected for my handgun license. However, after doing some research it seems that it MAY not get rejected after all since it is not drug nor a violent crime related.

If they reject my application, can I re-apply (after the 5 year mark) and actually have a chance at getting my permit?

Should I just wait until it is 5 years old (forms only ask for misdemeanors within the last 5 years) and then turn in the application?

They are going to see the arrest record when they pull my records so will waiting even make a difference?

The misdemeanor is for theft. I was selling goods that I knew were stolen and splitting the money with the thief. We both got charged with misdemeanor theft since it was under $1500 worth of goods. Stupid mistake and luckily it was enough for me to realize it was the first and only run-in with the law that I ever want to have.

Any help is appreciated.
