Missed record buck

I am mad at myself. I changed the recoil spring in my AR, when I test fired it
It shot a little to the right but I ignored it. Big mistake. I missed a 160 class
buck, the crosshairs were on his neck, no body shot availible in the thick brush. I did shoot a smaller buck later. I hit it 4 inches to the right. The big one was about 30 yards farther away. A day later my nephew's 12 year old son shot the same buck from the same stand. Pretty nice first deer. I am glad he got it, now I know it is dead not wounded. And it's a lifetime thrill for him. It's been many years since I missed a shot on a deer. Now the kid can tell everyone that he got the big buck that his great uncle missed. For the next 70+ years or so. The hunting legacy lives on.

That's what I'm trying to figure out... unless he bumped the optics when he opened the upper to change out the buffer spring.

I had something similar about 20 years ago, only I did hit the bull elk. After my first initial shot, I did hit him, I shot 3 more times, the guide told me I missed every time. To make long-short, the back base screw on the Redfield base mount was almost out!!!!!! Luckily the first round hit and bull went down, subsequent rounds, who knows! Sorry Pard!!

I don't think hes saying that changing the recoil spring changed his zero ...it shouldn't. What hes saying is something else got jarred loose in the process and he didn't take the time to figure out what that somthing else was.

I am not sure if the recoil spring itself changed the zero or something else, but I am going to check it out. The rifle also sounds much louder.

Bore sighted ok, the rifle was canted with a handle mount scope, offhand from a treestand. I just missed.
