I am about to send off the paperwork to the CMP tomorrow for a garand. Decided I'd stop by a local store to see what they had today. As I was looking at a Winchester Garand, I missed a guy walk in behind me and sell A BEAUTIFUL SA Garand with springfield barrel and reciever in GREAT shape to the store for $400. I saw it minutes to late. He had bought it from CMP as a Service issue both reciever and barrel dating 1943 and was getting rid of it for the money. I left and went back 2 hours later to see what they were asking....$800. I guess I'll still have to wait for mine to come in... I'm just kicking myself for not seeing him sooner.$450 and I could have picked out my own and had it today .....I gotta stop typing now as I kick myself again....

Ed , I wonder if anyone would get mad if you stood outside the gunshop with a sign " will trade food for M1's " :D
I know gun shops gotta live an eat too but $800 ?! Has it really been that long since I've traded real money in one of those places ? WOW .

I'm always amazed when I go to a gunshow and see CMP garands selling (or at least tagged) for $750 to $1000. The last show I went to a seller told me "that's a genuine CMP gun with all the paperwork!" He was asking $950.00! I didn't want to start an arguement by asking why would anyone pay that much for a "genuine CMP gun" when they could order one themselves.

This one had all the paperwork too. Sad thing was before I asked for the price I had told the owner and store owner that I was about to order a CMP rifle and we had a good discussion on how nice of a program it was. As far as the markup, They swear that it will be gone in a week at that price. And if it will, then I don't blame him for charging that. It's who pays it that I'm laughing at.

On a seperate note, store owner told me when I asked about Accuracy of a garand, that if it wouldn't shoot 3/4 inch groups at 100 meters then he would throw it away...I looked in his dumpster but didn't see any.

Diyj98, I think some people that arent hurting for cash, (which isnt me!), would rather pay more for a rifle, that they actually see/inspect, and like its condition/matching of part manufacturers, etc., I think the idea of paying for something they can inspect first, scares some people. Just my theory-

Ed, give me a call if you find any garands to do that! My rifles are doing great when they/I get around 2".

Isn't it Fulton that garantees 1" for only their $2000 model??
