If I had a CCW license for MO, could I carry legally in Arkansas?

Also, is there anything I need to know? For example, do I need to inform law enforcement, etc?

Missouri doesn't issue out of state permits.

If it is a valid permit, then AR will recognize it. But what you need to know, in effect, are what all the rules are about prohibited places. You have to follow AR's rules, not MO's.

You do not need to inform law enforcement, though.

You are just planning to visit, right? If you move here, then once you take up residence in AR, you have to get an AR permit, you cannot carry on the basis of your MO permit.
 
Just to clarify Baz's comment on informing LEOs: you are only required by law to inform if asked.

The Arkansas State Police have issued a "guide" for concealed carry that says you must inform up front. As they are not a legislative body (thank goodness!!!), it doesn't hold the weight of law. Just be advised, however, that some rural police have read this and don't make a distinction. You can find yourself in a sticky situation under the wrong circumstances. I can give a first-hand account of that if you'd like.

I did not know this! Thanks for bringing it to our attention. When did they do this?

I am not sure, though, what the OP is asking. He didn't specify that he was asking about informing if stopped. I could read what he was asking to mean like going to the local sheriff or police station and informing that he has an out of state permit.

Whatever, I always inform when stopped. I've never had a bad encounter.
 
Sorry. I live in MO, and I am taking the family to Arkansas for a few days of hiking.

I wanted to carry, but I wanted to stay legal.

My biggest concern is if I get pulled over for speeding or something.

Also, you all know any good state parks?
 
Outlaw Man, thanks for the link. It made for interesting reading. I've only had one encounter with ASP while carrying. A few years ago, I was involved in a hit and run that left my car unable to drive, while the other fled the scene. It was on I-430 and the incident was worked by the ASP. When the trooper arrived, I showed him my permit and told him I was carrying. He just told me to keep it holstered. As he worked the scene, a call came in that the vehicle that fled the scene had been spotted by the Little Rock police and they were in pursuit of the driver and passenger on foot. The trooper wanted me to make an identification if they caught them, so he had me get in his vehicle and we drove to a school where they had abandoned their vehicle. As we drove into the school yard, I said "What I am I supposed to do? I'm carrying." He said "You are okay, you are with me, just keep it concealed."

I've had 4 or 5 encounters with LEO's while carrying, I've always informed them, and have yet to encounter one that had any problem about it. I hope it stays that way.

Jeffmack, come visit our state and your relatives, and bring your CCW and permit. If perchance you get stopped, I recommend informing the LEO that you have a permit and are carrying. I got stopped in Texas last year while there on vacation, and that's how I handled it. It led to a brief discussion about the merits of my carry piece. As said above, most LEO's figure if you have a permit, you are one of the good guys. Only an LEO on a power trip would have a problem with it. I am sure there are some of those out there, but in my experience they are far and few between.

Not in Arkansas. IAC, the remark was made in response to post #2, not the OP.

Still, it is good to have (both) links to web sites with detailed information about the laws in various states. One is better served checking them, than asking questions in a forum like this. I would also recommend getting this and taking it with you when you travel, as you might not always have access to the Internet. I took a 10 state road trip last summer, and while I researched the carry laws of each state I planned to visit thoroughly before leaving, I wasn't comfortable thinking I had it all committed to memory, and found myself consulting it a few times just as a refresher as I went from state to state. It is not enough just to look at a map of reciprocity. There is quite a bit of state by state variation as to what are concerned prohibited places, what kind of posting is required, etc.
 
Reciprocity: http://www.asp.arkansas.gov/divisions/rs/rs_chl_law.html. Scroll to the bottom of the page and there's a drop-down menu of states whose CCLs are recognized by AR.

Notification. See Arkansas Code Annotated 5-73-315:
5-73-315. Possession of license -- Identification of licensee.

(a) Any licensee possessing a valid license issued pursuant to this subchapter may carry a concealed handgun.

(b) The licensee shall:

(1) Carry the license, together with valid identification, at any time when the licensee is carrying a concealed handgun; and

(2) Display both the license and proper identification upon demand by a law enforcement officer.

Rule 3.2 Contact with law enforcement
(a)
While in possession of a concealed hand
gun, the licensee shall present the original
license for inspection, along with an official form of photo identification, upon request
for identification by any law enforcement officer.

in possession of a
handgun, when the officer asks the license
