I'm confused on which 45 ACP bullet to get from Missouri Bullet.

I'm using 4.8 grains of HP38 in a full size 1911 and I'm not sure if I should buy the Bullseye #1 at Brinell 12 or the IDP #1 at Brinell 18.

I'm leaning towards the Bullseye #1, but of course I'm worried about leading. I've read that too hard a bullet can be just as bad as too soft a bullet.

What is everyone else using or can recomend?

I have shot both Bullseye #1 (12 BHN) and IDP #1 (18 BHN) SWC bullets in various pistols with 5.0 gr of W231/HP38 with very little to no leading (no leading in stainless Kimber 1911 barrels).

Order the Bullseye #1 if you plan on shooting lighter target loads.

BTW, it's been my experience that 5.0 gr will produce more accurate shot groups than 4.8 gr of W231/HP38 at 1.25" - 1.265" OAL.

A 4.8 gr load of HP38 should produce modest velocities around 700 fps. Unless you plan on pushing thes bullets over 900 fps the softer 12 BNH bullet should produce better results with less leading. In my experience the harder cast bullets lead at modest target velocities. I have had good results with the soft Speer 200 gr swagged LSWC using 4.2grs of Red Dot that should be similar to your 4.8grs of HP38.

Either bullet will work well in a 1911. The 12 BHN bullet will work better in a revolver.

Yep, and I concur with using 5.0 Grs of W-231 as well.

Although both would most likely work fine, I would pick the 12 BHN because it is a bit better suited to the low velocity load you are using.

For me, I would use it in a revolver as well as autos, so that is another good reason, as 918v posted, to get the 12 BHN.

5.0 Grs of W-231 with a .452 lead bullet in .45 ACP is not going to lead unless you have a rough barrel.

I can't compare the two because I have only used the softer BHN 12 "Bullseye #1". But like others so far have told you I also have had good results with those at 5g W231 @ OAL 1.25. No leading and good accuracy in 2 different 1911s

I am using Clays with a 230 gr Softball round and have almost no leading with 4 gr of Clays.

Well I finally went ahead and ordered 1k of the Bullseye #1. The only part that sucked, is that I live in Missouri so I have to pay tax. It wasn't much, but pennies matter when reloading.....at least to me.

He should open a different company in KS just for Missouri people. :D

Ironic...I had the same question regarding the Missouri Bullseye #1. I never shot them yet, but I am set up to load them with W231 with a Kimber Team Match II. Just need to set up my Dillon.

The first question should be: what is the groove diameter of your barrel? If your groove diameter is 0.451", then you need at least a 0.452" bullet and a 0.453" might be better.
I find that for target/plinking/practice, that low to mid-range ammo with bullets of 12 BHN are excellent. If I want to push to get a 177 Power Factor, then a harder bullet is desirable.
Some .45 barrels have very shallow grooves, and a harder alloy is better.
If you just want to order blind, than go with the harder bullet.

Use the softer bullet. You will not lead the barrel at any 45 ACP velocity.

I've loaded thousands of the IDP#1 over 8.0gr of Accurate #5. They work great and have almost no leading. I have switched to Accurate #2 for a little more economical load (5.5gr) and noticed a bit more leading than before. So I have ordered the Bullseye #1's to go with my lighter loads.

I have to agree with all the others, use the softer bullet and you won't get any leading. I also agree W231/HP-38 is a very good choice of powders too.

per BDS' suggestions, I tried 5.0gr of HP-38 under Bullseye #1 & IDP #1 and they have been my most accurate load in my .45ACP. Honestly, I unless I have to go to a commercial range that has no ventilation, I won't reload anything else for my XDm.

I have loaded thousands of the softer 200 gr SWC's from Missouri Bullets with 5.3 gr of W-231 with great results in 3 different Kimbers and a S&W 625-3.

That reminds me, I only have 2K on the shelf. I need to place an order:D.
