Missouri Gun and Quail Club

Does anyone here have experience with Missouri Gun and Quail Club in Wright City? I'm just curious what experiences you've had if you are a member or you have visited with a member. Send me a PM if you're more comfortable with that.

I joined last month. Mostly for the skeet and trap fields. I'm a member at Benchrest for 30 years and use that for most pistol and rifle stuff. Plus I can shoot in my yard!
Nice folks and a good place as long as you're happy with 200 yards on rifle. Two fishing lakes, a manual trap, archery field and a metallic pistol range. I live about midway between Missouri Gun and Quail and Benchrest. So where I go depends mostly on what I'm wanting to do. All the folks at both places are very friendly. If you want to improve at trap or skeet, the club President and her husband Ted at Missouri Gun used to coach the Lindenwood teams.

That's great. Thanks for the information. I've been to Benchrest, but I enjoy shotguns more than any other firearm, and the offerings there are limited. That, and I like fishing.

It's the place for you then. Winter hours for trap & Skeet are 11 - 3 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. When warmer weather arrives, and stays, it'll change.

Can you shoot year-round there? I looked at the schedule, and it's a little unclear to me.

Trap & Skeet sure, but only the hours listed during the winter. The hours change for summer. The manual trap is always available, but the electric traps need to be run by someone authorized. They can hurt you badly of you don't know how to reload. Perhaps I misunderstood your question if that's not the answer you were looking for.

The pistol and rifle ranges are always available unless there's something special scheduled. Yesterday there was a youth pheasant hunt.

No, that definitely answered my question. I have a friend of a friend who is a member, and he thinks highly of the club. I'm going to look into joining, if I can convince my wife to let me spend the money.

Well, you'll be able to take her fishing. She can fish while you shoot.

How does the fishing work by the way? Seems like this place must be huge--how big is the lake, approximately?

Sorry for not checking the thread sooner. The way fishing works is you have a hook on the end of a line and put something on there that a fish might like to eat. [emoji2]

There are two lakes and as far as I know you just fish off the dock or shore. There's a boat launch ramp and I believe they only allow trolling motors. I don't have a boat so I'll admit I didn't pay too much attention to that part. The dam on the bigger lake runs parallel to the 200 yd shooting lane so you can't be up there while it's in use.

I actually had a tour this past weekend and have decided to join. I lucked out on timing, as the interview/safety process is actually this Sunday. Hopefully after this, I'll be in!

I did like the place a great deal. I mostly like the fact that it's not insanely packed, and all of the areas were clean and well-kept. Also, Monika seemed to be big on safety, which is really the most important part of any shooting organization as far as I'm concerned. At public facilities, you see so much--most of the time it's fine, but sometimes one must fear for his/her life!

Right about the safety issue for sure. I've shot skeet at the Weldon Springs Conservation Range but have never used their pistol or rifle range. I'd never use the unattended range at Reifsneider either.
