Heard from my friend who lives there that they're patting themselves on the back for closing the out-of-state permit "loophole" for MO residents with regard to PA permits.

Anyone thinking about e-mailing and calling KCTV 5 to complain and boycott local advertisers who run commercials on their channel?

I never watch channel five for news sports or much of anything so I didn't see this foolishness. Hard to quit something your not already doing:D
It won't be long before this becomes a nonissue, just like every other state that's passed CCW. Once no blood runs in the street the so called "News outlets" will move on to other lies and half truths. That said it never hurts to write a polite letter stating the facts.

What do you mean by "closing the loophole?" Did I miss a new piece of legislation? As far as I know, those portions of the law recognizing permits are in force.

edited to add:

I went to the kvtv.com web site and found this story:

http://www.kctv.com/Global/story.asp?S=1691229&nav=1PuZLK5V

Apparently Missourians flooded some little county in Pennsylvania, so they decided to stop issuing them until they sorted it out. I don't really see what kctv had to do with it.

I told several friends from Missouri as soon as the law passed to go get permits from Florida. If they'd done that, they'd be fine now. The Florida permit costs more, but has wide reciprocity. And, really, $117 is almost nothing. Actually I don't understand why they didn't already have them. If I lived in a non-CCW state I would have had a Florida permit already so I could carry in those states that recognize non-resident permits.

KCTV is claiming otherwise, from what I've been hearing from those who watch their newscasts. They certainly are trying to pressure MO legislators, make the Sheriff look bad and possibly pressure the Centre county commissioners, and lastly, spin the issue negatively for public consumption.

IOW, the sky is falling, Chicken Little, and MO residents are taking advantage of the evil "loophole" (rather like the gun show "loophole") of obtaining an out-of-state permit to allow them to get by obstructionist politicos trying to deny them their rights - blood will run in the streets should gun-grabbers not be able to find more legal maneuvers to deny CCW.

As to FL permits, yes, they are still in effect, but anything that costs more and takes more work to get is going to have lower penetrance into the demographic. The best choice for someone who really wanted to get CCW, right now, was PA, specifically Centre Co., whose Sheriff was open to the idea of CCW for anyone who qualified. I'm sure there are other counties, but that means wading through a minefield of jerks in many counties to get to those who don't have a problem with issuing.

What KCTV actually did do was to publicize the fact of all the dollars flowing out-of-state. It seems that has lit a fire under some legislators (to fix the law) and county sheriffs (to start taking apps).

As always, money talks the loudest.

Channel 5 can pat themselves on the back all they want, but the truth is they did us a favor.

As for punishing them - they may be facing at least one lawsuit for airing pictures of pending apps showing confidential info. Not smart.

Yup

Funny. These counties are bitching about this being an unfunded law. They ought to stop farting around and start accepting applications if they want the $$$.

They still won't get any from me becauase the :cuss:ers put the age at 23. At 22, my moola is going to FL, where it will be appreciated.

:cuss: Missouri!

Oh yeah... I sent off for my PA license from Centre Co a while ago.

Whoops, forgot my photocopied driver's license! :banghead:

Things just haven't been going my way lately.
