Mitch Rosen Leather Holster

Per my blog entry:

I ended up purchasing a Mitch Rosen belt and its "Premier" holster (the "express" version). Premier is an "on the belt," full cover holster with snap-on buttons instead of belt holes. This design makes putting the holster on and off the belt easier, and does not require taking the belt off first to do so. I am curious as to how this compares with a similar product made by Lou Alessi.

If anyone has a review of a similar rig made by Alessi and also information about the difference between Rosen's full line and express line, please drop me a line.

I have the express line version of the same rig,,mine is set up to carry the Khar T9,, purchased it just before I retired,

THe snap on and off is great, and as they are one way snaps thay haven't worn out as of yet, the holster is good "cow " leather as all of his Express line are, his other stuff is made out of horse hide,, I have the same rig on order for a 226

I have a Mitch Rosen belt and holster as well. You can get his express line and have some custom mods. made to it also. I had the RRR express line holster made for a 1911 but went a step further and had the full detailing done to it. I don't have any experience with Alessi but Rosen's stuff is top notch.

What ARE the differences between MR's "express" and "custom" lines?

The express line is generally a "cheaper" version. Ususally made without as much detail or hand blocking that go into his other line, but as I said it can be done. I just particularly liked the RRR holster but it was only offered in the express line. When I called to order it and inquired about the detail work I actually spoke to Mitch Rosen himself. Their customer service is great. They are expensive for sure but I think worth it. Some might disagree and I don't mean to imply that there are not some pretty good holsters out there for less money. If you find a Mitch Rosen you like you sure won't go wrong with it.

From Rosen's website and catalog:

"Q: Is there any advantage to horsehide?

A: There is absolutley no advantage to horsehide as a material for high-quality holster manufacture. All of our standard products are constructed of best quality cowhide. However, we do keep some horsehide in stock for those who have been successfully advertised to."

Oh, by the way, here is my report on the holster and the belt. Nice, but squeaky!
