Has anyone purchased a K98-M48 series Mauser from Mitchells' Mausers', and what do you think of their quality ?. They are selling them in Gun List for $249.00. Also, can they be bought with a C&R FFL ?. Thanks for your help.:)

Yes they are C & R eleigable. But they are also extremely over priced guns. You can get a nice refurbished Yugo Mauser for around $100 to $130 if you look. Mitchell's are Yugos put into a fancy box.

Mitchell's is way overpriced. I bought my Mitchell Mauser from CDNN when they had the collector grade for $150. The rifle came in excellent shape and most of the cosmo was cleaned off. I don't think the rifle had been fired. Save yourself some money and stay away from Mitchell unless someone has them for cheap.

Thank you all for your help. The picture they have in Gun List looks like a custom, top of the line rifle. I guess pictures can be deceiving  I thought they were a good deal, if in fact the rifles they are selling, is like the one in the picture. Too good to be true, I guess :( That's why this forum is so great. We can get other members opinions, BEFORE we make a mistake. :D
Thanks again.

there are HUGE differences between the k98 and the m48/m48a.

sights on the k98 start at 100 meters, the m48 is 200.

the stocks have different ergonomics. the k98 fits better, the m48 is thicker in all the places my stumpy fingers need it to be thin.

m48 is shorter. the weight balance is a lot different as well.

both are great shooters, but i'd rather have my k98 with me than the m48.

both are econimically priced under $200. i got my k98 from CDNN for $149. i got my m48 from a friend in unfired condition and very clean for $200.

look around gunstores, they usually have a mitchell m48 for less than whats priced in magazines.

Oh, their rifles are just as nice as the pictures. But they over-charge for them. The same "nice" rifle should cost $200 with some accessories, at most. But many retailers who carry Mitchell's M48As have more reasonable prices.

Spiffy is making the differences just a bit bigger than they are, but he is right. ( ;) ) The M48(A) is somewhat thicker. So if you like your rifles to have a little more beef to them, you may want to lean to the M48A. I do. The Kar98, if I remember correctly, also have a bolt stop. If the magazine is empty it will hold the bolt back. And the Russian captures are the most common, and cheapest, Kar98s. The Russians didn't exactly baby the rifles from what I've seen. Now I'm not sure what Spiff was smoking when he said the M48A was shorter. It is... by .20 inches from what I can see.
