Does anyone know why my model 60 shoots this way?

At 50 yards it is about 4 or 5 inches left of where it is aimed.

Is there any way to rectify it?

The rifle is about 25 years old.

First unload and clear the gun!

IIRC, the rear sight is in a dovetail slot(?). If it is, you need to get a brass or plastic drift and move the rear sight a little bit to the left by tapping it gently (the direct of the bullet strike).

It's always a good move to use a pencil and mark both the sight and the top of the barrel lightly with a little mark so you can gauge how far you moved the sight each time you tap it.

Remember any adjustment will be multiplied by the distance you are shooting at. It may seem just a hair off at an indoor 25 yard range and you find it's a foot or so off at 100 yards. OTOH if it's dead nuts on at 100 yards it will still be on at 25 or 50 yards.

Just tap it a little at a time, shoot a group, and see what the improvement is, then unload, clear and tap some more as needed.

Or you can take the lazy man's way out, like the rest of us, and buy an inexpensive Simmons 22 Mag scope for around $30 and just ignore the old iron sights.

Thanks for the input Don!

I dunno about a dovetail but the rifle has what I would call a standard sight, by this I mean factory original.

it is possible I suppose that the sight is bent, though it does not show it from a casual observation. Can't believe I did not think of that.

I will try moving it slightly with a mallet. A $30 dollar scope is not out of the question but it does seem to take the fun out of shooting the thing.

thanks for the brain food dude!

I just checked on my Mod. 60. Neither the front or the back are dovetailed. Proceed with caution on trying to move the back one. I'd go with the scope idea. I have one on mine and enjoy it thoroughly.

After reading other posts, I checked again. Sorry. It is dovetailed. It just wasn't what I expected it to look like.

I have 3 Marlin Mod-60's. 2 are early 70's and 1 is an '05(2005). All have dove tail rear sights.
Make sure the barrel crown isn't dinged. A small deformation of the crown(muzzle) will move point of impact.
To move the point of impact RIGHT, move the REAR sight RIGHT.

If the gun is shooting to the left, move the rear sight to the right! Move the rear sight the same direction you want the point of impact to move.
