Anyone out there have any experience with this company? They seem to be able to put together any parts kit you want, and prices seem reasonable. I have decided to finally get into the Black Rifle game, but I am going to have to build it to keep the cost down. If anyone knows anything about them I would appreciate your input.

Their kits aren't bad, a few quality issues (as you'd expect from a budget supplier), but their customer service is what's supposedly lacking.

For a cheap kit/build, Del-Ton is tops....they have a great reputation and I've had superb luck with their parts. Good folks to deal with, too.

I tried to order from Model 1 once. When they couldn't talk me out of the parts I wanted (they were out of stock) the woman on the phone got an attitude, told me to call back in 6 months and hung up. My experience with Del-Ton makes me rate them pretty low in both quality and customer service. I won't do business with Del-Ton again.

I've built one AR that I like very much from a Model 1 kit and it's likely I'll do further business with them as I find they are a good value. But they are not a hold-your-hand sort of outfit.

I'd stay away from Model 1 Sales. I haven't really heard much good about them.

I've been running the numbers for the few weeks on an AR build.

I'd save up some more money and buy quality that you know is going to last.

I think I was looking at a Stag lower and parts kit and a complete stag upper.

Model 1 and M/A Parts are both offshoots of the old Nesard company run by the Drasens. They have been in the business a long time - since the late 1980s at least. They tend to be in the lower tier with regards to parts and price; but if you know what you are doing and are willing to tinker, you can get some good deals.

I wouldn't recommend them to someone who wasn't already familiar with ARs and capable of assembling one on their own.

I had the chance to speak with a Colt engineer a little while back - Model 1 was at the very bottom of his ranking of AR parts suppliers.

I've had good luck with J&T. Good CS, quick shipping, good quality, competitive price.

I've built two AR15 rifles using Model 1 parts, one from a complete Model 1 kit and one with a Model 1 assembled upper. I've been highly pleased with both. Their price and selection are great, and I've had no quality or customer service problems.

I've probably built 30 or so AR15's and...

The model 1's I have experience with were by far the worst quality AR15's I have ever had personal experience with. I wouldn't touch another one and would never recommend one to somebody I liked.

While you are looking around check out J&T Distributing. Fair price, good parts, and good CS. I'm about to order another lower reciever from them. This will be my third build using their parts.

I buy a lot of AR stuff from Brownells because they are a short drive across a big bridge for me.
They carry lots of excellent quality AR parts and tools.

From personal experience:
DPMS & Double Star for upper and lower receivers
High Standard for bolt carrier assemblies
Smith Enterprises for bolts
DPMS for A2 furniture
MagPul CTR for a collapser stock
Rock River for trigger assemblies
Yankee Hill Manufacturing and Midwest Industries for free floater and standard rail forends

Prairie River and Brownells for small parts and springs

My all time favorite general use barrels are Bushmaster and I have had very good luck with Olympic for precision target barrels.
Say what you will about Olympic, their barrels are excellent, first class.
