Ok, Ive decided... Im buying a 300/221-slash-300 Fireball-slash-300 Whisper M4 upper for my AR. I have a YHM 7.62 Phantom, so it just makes sense.

I have looked and looked, and though there are better manufacturor's out there, I dont feel like waiting six months or more for a Del-Ton or any of the other higher-class companies. Call me crazy, but Im one of those people who drops cash, I want something in my hand within a reasonable amount of time.

I considered briefly, SSK, but Im not paying $1100+ for an upper. I dont care how good it is.

So I settled on M1S. 1-8" barrel, which is critical seeing as how Im shooting 220-240 grainers subsonic almost exclusively. The upper, from my understanding will be here in about 5-7 days from everyone else's experience. I DO have an issue that I wanted to speak with them regarding the upper cycling with subsonics reliably. Every post that I have seen complaining about their reliability with subsonics was posted between 2003-2005. The posts since then seem to be more positive. Also, from what I read, when people switched away from pistol powder and head towards powders such as 4227, 1680 and 2015, they seem to cycle fine.

However, I wanted to speak with a rep, just to get their outlook seeing as how they are building it. I have been calling almost nonstop for two days now. The phone is busy, busy busy busy busy and busy. Do they ever answer their phones? Do they have one line? Has anyone ever gotten through to them? ...and you cant leave a message.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

I just ordered my Model 1 upper on-line, and that was long before The One got an election.

Anyway, have you also looked at J&T (http://www.jtdistributing.com )?

I have an upper from them and it's a perfect specimen. Really like it.

I wonder if the woman at M1S is a member here...?

I just called again... miraculously, she answered the phone. Very polite and kind. Two interesting points...

1. The wait now for a 300 Fireball upper (and most others) is running about FOURTEEN (THATS 1-4) WEEKS!

2. From the tech's mouth... "Don't expect our Fireball uppers to cycle subsonic ammunition with any consistancy, if at all."

Thanks, but no thanks. Probably going to axe this whole idea.
I have 5.56 subsonic loads that shoot one hole at 50 yards and dont cycle the action. A 'Whisper' which doesnt cycle is a rather self defeating concept in my eyes.

I have 2 Model1Sales uppers and could not be happier. Only problems that I ever had were traced back to defective mags. Shot the 300 whisper for a little while too. Nice and quiet with a suppressor on it, and no problems cycling the bolt.

They just say that, there are no real problems. M1S is okay, not the worst, but not the best. Should be happy with what you get.

BTW, .300 Whisper works best with 10" bbls.
