My son shots a Smith Model 10 in bullseye and he would like to put a hammer with a larger spur (Target Hammer). Can any one help me on a place to purchace one.
You won't likely find target hammers and wide target triggers listed under Model 10 parts. Instead look under models 14 and 15.
Be aware that hammers and triggers are not necessarly drop-in parts.
If your son uses his Model 10 exclusively for bullseye target shooting he might be interested in a S&W-made hammer/trigger kit that converts the regular double-action model to one that is single-action only with a shorter cocking stroke. These were available from Numrich Gunparts Co. (www.e-gunparts.com).
Thanks. I'll have to see what he wants to do. He does use the model 10 only for bullseye maybe someday I can get him to switch to a 45 like the old man, those I know.
I ordered a replacement hammer for my 10-8 directly from S&W.
When I ruined the double-action sear (it didn't fit!) I ordered *just* the DA sear from numrich.
The Model 10 is a bit handicapped for bullseye due to the fixed sights and the short (for bullseye) barrel. A 6" model 14, 15, or 19 would be ideal (14 being the peach), but if my 10 was all I had, I'd shoot the heck out of it and be happy!
I find it hard to thumb-cock the hammer fast enough during the rapid fire strings, so DA is useful. Takes more practice, tho.
