I have a Winchester model 12, sn 913765, 16 ga ,full choke, stamped US on the front left side of receiver. Can anyone tell me when it was made, approx. value, and how to remove magazine plug ?

made in 1941 ...to remove the magazine plug remove the two small screws [use proper sized screw driver or you will mare the finish on the tube] then push the take down pin through and depress the spring in the pins machined slot [with a screwdriver] and push the pin the rest of the way through....hold the end plug as it might decide to fly across the room if you dont.......You dont say what condition the gun is in, but in 85/95% range pre ww2 16ga field grade win proof steel guns are worth in the 350/450 range...The US hand stamp on the receiver might mean it was one of the guns procured by the military from already finished warehouse stock at the beginning of ww2,
from just about all manufactures including winchester.....this does add a little extra interest to your
gun.............
