Model 12 w/factory Cutts

I've read that factory Cutts guns did not have a choke marking on the gun and I've read that this is untrue--they indeed could have a marking. I have a model 12 with a Cutts and VR that says WS1. It is a 1971. Could it have left the factory with the Cutts? Perhaps installed later by the factory? Was the factory still doing that in 1971?

Not a model 12 but I have a Winchester model 40 skeet gun, it came from the factory with a Cutts and its barrel has no choke markings.
Not sure that helps, this gun dates to 1940.

I wish I could help, mine is a '51 Model 12 with factory Full choke.
