This is kinda weird. I went to a gun show today and unexpectedly came home with two model 19-3's. Yes, the stainless looking one is a model 19-3. I don't know much about finishes, but I'm assuming that must be some kind of brushed chrome? I bought these from two different dealers, and oddly, after I got them home and cleaned them up, I realized that the serial numbers are less than 50 numbers apart. Both are K79xxxx. If I'm reading the S&W serial number code correctly...I think they were made in '68? Both revolvers are in fairly decent shape with mostly muzzle wear. Lock-up is tight and timing seems good. The blued one needs a new rear sight blade however (new learning experience I guess). Both triggers are excellent in SA and DA. After removing the grips, I saw that the blued one is wearing Herrett grips...nice bonus. Not sure what the other has on it...but they feel great.

Unexpected surprises make going to gun shows worth all the effort. Hope you enjoy them. Seems like a Model 19 weekend.

Actually, both revolvers are wearing what appear to me to be Herrett stocks.

I kind of suspected that as well...although the one set is not marked.
I also suspect that these might have been owned/sold by the same person. The serial numbers are close, the grips are similar, and both triggers have shoes. And both guns seem to have been carried a lot and shot little...although they were pretty dirty. Whoever it was, they spent some money on refinishing and grips.

Yeah...

Those both look like Herrett Shooting Star grips; in my opinion the best revovler grips in the known universe. Someone knew what they were doing.

Good find. Good decision to get both. I sure as shooting would have. (Was that a pun?)

I like in PDSR California and haven't found a pinned barrel M19 for love nor money in about three years now. The last M19 I saw for sale was a non-pinned gun and the guy wanted $499 for it; way over price for me.

Looks like both have trigger shoes. Be careful with those, especially if they extend beyond the width of the trigger guard. Makes it real easy to have a KABOOM when you push the gun into a holster.:cuss: IMO, they are not worth the risk.

I live in CA as well, and just brought home a mint 19-3, 6" in nickel. It was unfired by the original owner. It is no longer unfired, and I'm in love with it.

Got it for $400.

Now I need more revolvers so that one don't get lonely.
