My new case color-hardened S&W Model 36...just because. It's a beautiful revolver, action smoothed a bit, and best of all, easier carrying than anything else I've owned. Fits and carries perfectly in a Simply Rugged Sourdough rig.

Beautiful, jambie. I have no use for a snub, really, but I just want one, and the Model 36will likely be the choice. Passed on a used no-dash not long ago, but some day .....

Congratulations! Nice looking gun. I too bought a new 36 a couple months ago. Traded in a 22 mag. 351PD, nice but a lot of flash and bang but not a lot of power. Had been looking at the airlites 637, 638 etc. but the guys I know who carry one all complained about snappy recoil with +P ammo. I tried a 638 and yes it was snappy. I spotted the 36 and liked the way it felt in my hand. Very nice fit and finish. Even the guys at the store tried to talk me into a 637 due to the light weight. The 36 is only 5 oz. heavier but its enough to help absorb the recoil of +P ammo. Love the way it shoots, accurate and a nice trigger out of the box. Often carry it in my front pants pocket in a pocket holster. I put some S&W rubber boot grips on it. Really happy with it. My wrist will thank me later. Enjoy yours.

I carry it with the Speer Gold Dot 135 gr.+P and, honestly, the recoil isn't bad at all. Follow up shots are quick, and at 7 yards, it's very accurate. My wife carries a S&W 642, and I found myself stealing that from her more and more after I got rid of a pos S&W version of the PPK/S. The 36 and the 642 are just so convenient to tke with me in the aforementioned holster, or in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster in the summer. Anyway, I'm loving this little shooter...

Cheers,
Tom

Beautiful little gun - the case-hardened finish looks very nice.

One of the smart things Jambie did was add longer grips. I have a Model 637 and it was indeed very snappy (read painful) with +P ammunition. Fifty rounds of +P pretty well hammered my hand. However, I swapped out the Uncle Mike's Boot Grips for the Hogues from a Model 60 and it was much more pleasant and controllable. The gun still conceals very well, though I don't use ankle holsters so I can't comment on those.

I always did like Color Case Hardening on a revolver and that one looks good.

I'm a big fan of S&W J frame revolvers and I own a M36 all be it a much older one. (1975) If that were my revolver it would be wearing a set of Badger Custom Grips in Rosewood.

Old Snubbies

SNW38SPECIALS.jpg

I got the one on the right in 1983 out of the box and picked up the second one made in 1960 from an estate sale. Great back up guns or BUGs.

A pair of old Gals but with some modern ammo. They're a couple of Safe Queens now, since I've upgraded several times since then.

What a great-looking piece! A 36 is on my list of guns I need to buy one of these days. Right now, though, my 642 is performing all of the snubby duties pretty effectively.

I carry a forty year old Model 36 everyday...
Likewise. I got mine through a lawyer friend. He had a client going up the river for kiddie porn and wasn't going to need it anymore. $200. Slight surface rust, cleaned up with a copper penny.

I carry this gun regularly, especially when I know I'm going to need to disarm, like at a liquor serving restaurant or the Post Office. I used to carry in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster. Now I carry in one of my own leather pocket holsters.

Jambie, that is a neat looking little revlover, take good care if it. I assume you will use the same products to maintain the case color-hardened finish as you would use on a blued revolver?

Spotted this little guy a few weeks ago at my LGS on consignment for around $250, I just couldn't walk away :D Haven't shot it yet, but with little wood grips like those I'm expecting it to sting a bit :uhoh:
