Model 66-1 DOB

This past weekend at the local gunshow I purchased a S&W model 66-1. I got an amazing deal on this weapon and was wondering if anyone could tell me the year in which it was manufactured. The serial number is 69K9XXX. Thanks for any available help.

Well, Ron James, since you seem to know what your talking about RE 66-1 build dates, mine is 67K6xxxx. I am pretty sure it was San Diego Sheriffs gun, seeing as how it has "SD SHERIFF" stamped on the side, but thats about it.

The Standard Catalog of S&W, 3rd Edition shows serial numbers 57K0001 through 91K6800 was used or issued in 1980. when I say issued, S&W would make frames ahead of time and then use them when needed. The frames could have been made in 1980, but not assembled and shipped until later.
