I just purchased a S&W model 66.

What a great trigger pull. In single action it is an unbelievably smooth break.

Are these revolvers used for CCW?

The gun seems to conceal fairly easy.

Do any of you carry this gun for self-protection or CCW?

I also like the model 19. Both revolvers have a great sexy look.

Heavy 38 plus Ps would be easily controlled. Are 357 magnums a handful out of these short barrled guns?

Depending on the grips/stocks you put on the 66 they shoot very well and are very controllable.
Many people carry the 66 & 19 for CCW.
FYI, the 66 & 19 are the same "K" frame model, but the 19 is the Blued or Nickel version and the 66 is all Stainless.
With boot style grips, my 2.5 inch 19 is a little harder to hold onto with the 357 mags.
Switching to a full grip, makes this snubbie a joy to shoot with no matter who's loads. :D

i just bought a 4" model 66 at the Scottsdale Gun Club last week. Just had a chance to use it at the range today and love it so far. We (me and the wife) shot a box of 38's and one of 357 mags, both 158 grain as I have heard to stay away from the hot loaded lighter slugs. The 38's were easy for my wife and she didn't do too bad with the magnum loads. If you have a shorter barrel then the recoil might be harsh with the mag loads. Have fun.

I carried a 4 inch 19 or 66 for the first few years as an officer for both duty and off duty. There are several excellent holsters and belts that allow concealed carry. It mostly depends on your style of dress and climate. Experiment with the many grip styles to find the one that fits your hand best. Some grips conceal better then others. Rubber grips sometimes catch on clothing and make the gun "print". Hogue and others make similar types of grips in both wood and rubber.

I had one of the first of 3 Mod 66 in 2.5" to leave S&W. My Dad has it now. The 4" Mod 66 pictured is an early model as you can tell from the SS rear sight and no front insert. I carried it quite a bit as my back up squad car gun. Great shooter. The 2.5" Mod 19 pictured is one of my favorites. It has a trigger job done by the smiths at the FBI Academy. Super slick. I carried it quite a bit and still do some on occasion.

Hey, isp, that's a Bianchi Lightning grip on that 66. I've got one - but I changed to a Crimson Trace lasergrip. The Lightning really worked nice though.

They're on a blued 2.5" Mod 19. Since S&W didn't make a humpback Mod 19 the Lightning was the next best thing. Sure cuts down on the hammer snags.
