I want to have made a small 6.8spc or maybe 6.5 grendel bolt action rifle for my kids. I know I can have shilen barrel the model 7 to 6.8spc and they ream out the bolt face to 30 carbine. What I am unclear on is will the 6.8 rounds load into the model 7 223 magazine, and if not can the parts to make it work be bought?

Remingtons production 6.8 rifles are all large tactical types.

I saw a CZ 527 (probably originally 7.62x43mm) bolt action converted to 6.8 SPC somewhere on the interweb. It is a nice compact light rifle.

If you are working with a CZ, the 6.5 Grendel is a much easier conversion. The 6.8 requires the 7.62x39 action, but then you need to order a 223 bolt and have it opened up. The 6.5 grendel required only a barrel swap.

With the Remington, the conversion is also a bit of a pain, particularly when you can find the 700 in 6.8 already. They made a fluted light tactical.

The 6.5 Grendel is only a barrel change from a 7.62x39 bolt gun.
The 6.8 is a bit of work from a 223 but not worth doing from a 7.62x39.
I am doing both a 6.8 on a Rem 799 and I have an ERMA 39 I am going to Grendel-ize

IR a gunsmith.
