I am looking for a model 70 action in a magnum caliber...pre 64 stainless classic. Anyone know where these could be purchased? Thanks, Willie.

You're not going to find a pre 64 in stainless. I was just looking for model 70 actions and had no luck. For the same price you can buy the whole gun.

I doubt if you can find just the action in stainless. I saw several of the Classic stainless rifles at a recent gunshow, but they weren't cheap.

for a classic in stainless you'll have to buy a complete rifle as a donor.
i've been looking for the same thing off & on for a while on gunbroker for a .416 taylor project but so far i haven't seen any cheap enough to force me to buy them, i've seen a few that were close.
i have a lilja stainless octagon .416 barrel thats begging to be installed on a stainless classic action

Good luck. Back when Classic M70's were in production, I had to buy a complete SS action to build a target rifle around.

To the best of my knowledge, Winchester has never made actions available to the public, you had to buy a rifle.

An alternative would be to purchase a stainless action from Montana Rifle Company, their 1999 CRF action might be a good candidate. Not cheap though.

CDNN has new FN/Winchester M70 actions with "308" bolt face listed in their latest catalog. They are not on the web site, but a call to them should get you info on buying one.
These are the actions FN builds the "SPR" on and comes with a rail mount for $349.

i`ve seen them offer elsewhere IIRC but don`t remember where at the moment, Browells maybe?

I have a Ruger all stainless M77 Mk2 I think its called in .338 Win,its basically identical to the pre-64 Winchester controlled round feed, yes you can chamber it upside down, great rifle after I tossed the too narrow plastic stock that came with it and mounted a Hougue overmolded rubber over fiberglass, great stock with aluminum bedding for the action, and the scope mounts are super strong like a Sako.

I have a Model 70 SST Laredo,in 300 Weatherby. And also have a model 70 SST 257 Weatherby chamber. But I need another 257 model 70,for a friend. No comparison with a Hart match grade barrel.
