need some help from the model 70 experts.

I am trying to build up a .375 H & H on a winchester model 70 action. (pre-64)

The problem is I don't know which caliber complete model 70 rifles i can use for their actions.

I guess a better way of saying this is which caliber model 70's can i build a 375 H & H by cannibalizing a complete action?

thanks

You might also look for a .300 H&H action. The full length magnum actions have a magnum length magazine and a radius cut in the top of the receiver ring to aid loading.

There is a magnum length action that is used for the 300 H&H and 375 H&H. They are longer than a 30/06 "long" action.

I know this is a little off topic, but what is the difference between the pre and post '64 Winchester Model 70's?

Are there any other pre 64 model 70 reference webpages besides wikipedia?

All "pre-64" M70 actions

were the same length. But several were modified for specific cartridges. M70s chambered for "short" cartrisges (.358/.308/.243 or .22H, had magazines blocked for teh shorter cartridge.

The .300H&H and .375H&H were standard length actions, but had lengthened magazine boxes and a clearance cut in the rear of the receiver (receiver bridge) to allow easy loading.

Any attempt to build a .375H&H on any action other than an original H&H-variant receiver is going to be costly.
