Hi All,

I'm new the forum and I want to start shooting paper at 1000 yards. I'm interested in everyone's comments. I'm looking to purchase below mentioned weapon with a scope. What are your thoughts?

Remington Model 700 Sendero SF II Rifle 7313, 300 Winchester Mag, 26" Heavy Barrel, Bolt Action, Black Synthetic W/ Webbing Stock, Stainless Steel Finish, 3 Rds

Regards,

Chuck

I had one of the first to come out in a 7MM mag. I had to tune it,and get the right load, but I now use a Winchester Laredo, in the classic .The Remington is a sweet shooter, but I would check it out for a muzzle brake.Just my thoughts. I like the power, but don't like the shoulder punch.

it will be fine to 1000 yards if you are.

recoil will be problematic, though. i'm a huge fan of the 300 win mag, but it is difficult to get a lot of practice w/ the chambering in a short period of time. if you are comfortable with the idea of frequent, short range sessions, this is a great gun.

good luck!

My friend picked up his Sendero in .300 Ultra. A brake was installed on it. WOW, what a difference. It kicks way, way, way, less than a 7 mm Mag. I'd say recoil is reduced anywhere between 30% to 40%. It is just amazing. That's the upside. The down side, boy oh boy is it loud.

Regards,
Chuck

Just a suggestion, if you are going with the 300 WM just for punching holes in paper and not planning at shooting game animals at that range I would opt for 260,308 or a fast twisted 243. They will all do the job with alot less recoil and expense.

High-Power Service Rifle competition is shot slow-fire at 1,000 yards or its equivalent and used/uses .30-06, .308 and (as often as not today) .223. It is just in the relatively past few years that we have seen the continued military adoption of the .300 WM and some .338 and .50 BMG sprinkled in for good measure.

You are joking right ? The .300 WM in a Sendero is a pussycat a child could shoot ! I have a SF-II in .300 Ultra Mag, and it kicks less than my .300 Win Mag Boat Paddle Ruger. I guess some people are just recoil shy. My walk around rifle is a 9lb .338 Win Mag.

The Senderos are great rifles. Very good shooters, and the HS stocks don't hurt either. If you are shooting that far, handloading is almost a must and stick to the heavy bullets; 200 or 220gr Matchkings or 210 Bergers.
